The Year

Post by sprinks41 »

this song is kinda different from my usual writing style. no chorus, just one huge verse the whole way through. mainly cuz i couldnt think of a chorus lol but also cuz it just felt like it didnt need one. anyway, it's about my best friend. on May 26 it will be a year since her mom passed away of cancer, and i wrote this about how she's dealt with it and how she's grown from it. hope you like it!

"The Year"

After crying herself to sleep at night
She lays in the dark to blind her sight
Her smile is gone, she won't look around
It's been gone for too long, it can't be found
Her hopes are dead, there's nothing to hide
She wants her there laying by her side
But she has passed, the family's torn apart
Now she's a spirited girl with a broken heart
It's been a year with drastic change
Why couldn't things just stay the same?
Yesterday was dull, tomorrow looks dry
Nothing to say so she starts to cry
Always expecting the worst to happen next
Collecting unemployment checks
Continuous struggles to collect and save
Crying tears water the grave
Sick of arguing, not to mention
being forced to learn every life lesson
Cigarettes and percocets to help her ease the pain
from the stress and pressures that burden her brain
Her life is like a movie but she can't press rewind
Will she fall out of control or completely lose her mind?
Eyes always bleary like she's on marijuana
Over-reactions like a typical prima donna
Occasional flings behind the doors
But never stooping to the level of whores
So sick and tired of all the chores
Including little things that he ignores
It's amazing to see all that she's gone through
Words can't explain how much she misses you
Roses are red, violets are black
She'd give anything to have you back
Constant nightmares invade her head
Drowning her in the tears that were shed
Opens the bottle and crawls inside
Numbs the pain so she can hide
from the misery and grief dragging her down
The silence is screaming but she can't hear a sound
It's amazing how much she has grown
By herself but not alone
She just can't seem to catch a break
There's not much more she can take
All she wants is time to herself
To escape from all this hell
Tired of doing task after task
Is that really so much to ask?
