Alright, so from the Dose.ca interview, I thought it was a certain thing that Deryck's father died before he was born. But now I found this article called "Whibley Gives Up Search For Father", where he says:

"I've never met my father before, he was gone before I was born. It wasn't something I'd talked about or written a song about in the past and people don't know those kind of things about me. So writing a song about it - which is called 'Dear Father' - was me being totally honest and totally personal. I've never met my father, and I probably never will."

I'm really very confused.

Where is the actual video from Much Music where he says his father passed away? I still haven't seen it, but every where online says his parents divorced...

I never heard that Deryck's father had died, but I'm not an expert in the matter at all.

From where did you take that Deryck's father had died?

I've only heard two stories...

1. Deryck's Dad is dead
2. He left Deryck's mom because she wouldn't get an abortion.

Dammit, Deryck. He said his father was dead in that Dose interview. Now, of course, it's not up anymore. Brill.

i think it's pretty obvious (listening to walking disaster) that his father is not dead...so...i think when he said "his dead" on the dose.ca interview he didn't mean "his dead" x) but i didn't listen the interview...so... : x

Why don't you send him a message on MySpace and ask and see if he'll answer.

He definitely said very clearly to the interviewer, "My dad died before I was born."

MAYBE he means that he'll probably never meet him because he doesn't believe in the afterlife.

maybe his father is dead for him, not really dead.

maybe he was misquoted at some point...

maybe it meant when his dad was alive.
