New Album Success?

So as many of you have already begun to think, 2009 appears like it's going to be a great year for music. At least I know for me it will be. A lot of my favorite bands are coming out with new albums this year.
But with a band like Green Day, who's had major success with American Idiot, one can expect to be a lot of anticipation for the follow-up. I'm very excited myself to hear what they conjure up.
Rumors of a Blink-182 reunion are also floating around and if this turns out to be true and they plan to release an album for 2009, it could probably be an even bigger event than Green Day's new album.
That leaves us with Sum 41. I'm afraid that their new album will be lost in the crowd and over-looked while Green Day and (possibly) Blink-182 grab all the limelight. Even if they produce a hit, it probably won't be able to overshadow something from Green Day or (possibly, again) Blink-182.
So, what are your thoughts?

omg maybe dey will toar togedar!?!11
I dunno, but it would be amazing to hear blink, green day and sum in the airwaves together again. Know what I mean? they're kind of (for me) the three big pop-punk bands that make you wanna yell at cops.
Now I'm getting really excited, because music has been so lack-luster with trash like Metro Station, The jonas Brothers. And you just don't see any good harder-style riffs anymore. Its either too hard (BMTH, TDWP) or too soft (some rock/folkish band) you know what I mean?
So, I'm hoping that Green Day aren't mimicking John Lennon with this record, Sum 41 aren't telling a story about inner demons with theirs, and blink ACTUALLY get back together. Even if blink do though, there's no way a record will be out this year.

It would be great if all three of them were to release new albums this year. I always thought of them as the "Big Three" in pop-punk as well.
And I know what you mean about the riffs and stuff. I'm not against indie music, in fact, I think it's great. But I miss the songs like The Hell Song and Over My Head where it was a nice medium.
I'm hoping that's what comes out of the Sum's next album and I'm hoping Green Day doesn't go too soft on us.

I agree that they are the biggest but personally I think those older pop-punk bands like Pennywise, Nofx and Bad Religion should have way more attention than they get. There like the three grandfathers of pop-punk.

You are probably right. But I think that Sum 41 shine the brightest in the role of the underdog. Their music will be great as always and appreciated either way, not neccessarily by sales quantity but rather by their honest fans like us around here.
All I can say is that musicwise, there is nothing I look more forward to than new Sum 41 songs. I would also like to see Blink back together and I'm sure, the new Green Day album will be great, too. It will be an exciting year 2009.

If blink-182 got back together it wouldn't just be epic, it would be godly. If they were to tour within the school year, schools would be close to empty.

Honestly I think Sum 41 will do the second best. Everyone forgot about Green Day because of Mainstream music. Blink 182 is still popular even though they broke up so I guess they would do the best. As for Sum 41, they havent gotten lost because Underclass Hero came out 2 years ago but there last single was last year. Green Day has been gone for a while so I'd say everyone forgot about them

All the mainstream kids perhaps. But Green Day got a solid fan base.

I hate to break anyone's hopes or dreams here but, Blink 182 is not getting back together. I would love for them to get back together, but I don't think it will even happen, I also wish that my perdiction is wrong, I mean I love Blink (Second favorite band, seconded to Sum 41).
I think that Green Day will be the most successful, I don't know a lot of people who know who Sum 41 is, everyone knows who Green Day and Blink 182 are. But now I can't wait until later on in the year, I completely forgot Green Day was releasing a new CD.

Yeh we all want Blink 182 back together but it's not gonna happen. This rumour all came from Travis saying they're all talking again. I'm hoping Sum 41's album will be a cross between DTLI and Chuck. Two amazing albums. Any more of this Underclass Hero shite and I will officially consider Sum 41 being dead.
Green Day won't top their success of American Idiot.. I just hope they follow a similar style to that album as it clearly brought them a lot of success.
In terms of any of this music going main stream in the UK. Nah, won't happen.

I've only mentioned the Blink-182 reunion because apparently David Kennedy from Angels & Airwaves had confirmed on Modlife that Blink was recording a new album. This
blog entry (now deleted) had said something along the lines of, "I saw Blink in the recording studio today. Good to see." Also, Mark, Tom and Travis are supposed to be presenters at the Grammy Awards. And I guess someone hacked into an
HMV Database?

I must admit, I don't like Blink 182 or Green Day anymore, I've kind of moved into Heavier music nowadays but for some reason I still love Sum 41,it's quite odd. But a few of my bands should have some albums this years.
Fuck Blink 182, I want a System of a Down reunion :D

I still think that Sum 41 is gonna do good. If Green Day and Blink released an album the same day...well it would be like Kayne VS 50 Cent. Epic, but no way in hell that would happen!
