With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write or have any influence on the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours.

Same here, it's actually quite difficult to make a song without accidentally copying some other song a little bit.

i think Viva La Vida is a good song. it makes me happy. Violet Hill is also pretty good. i don't listen to coldplay much at all, but i don't think they purposely copied him. i also think its a jackass thing to do on Satriani's part to accuse and take them to court before just talking to them about it. it shows that he know most people don't know about his songs as much as they should (just judging by that clip, i think he deserves more airplay; it's very good). the guys from Coldplay aren't assholes that would knowingly copy another artist's song.
