i dont really like pop music that much (SUM 41 IS NOT POP AND I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS), and it seems that alot of bands are going in that dirrection, to me pop just seems to lack something. it doesnt seem genuine. you know? also i think greenday has already kind of headed in that direction

You're right, Sum 41 is more Pop-Punk (at least Underclass Hero more than any other album). Basically, anything that is catchy with hooks can be classified as "pop".

ah, no. the only reason people like certain songs, is because different people find different songs "catchy". that isn't a valid definition for "pop" because i don't find country "catchy", where another person would.

pop, to me is any song that gets extended airplay because it is POPular.

Well, generally pop music is melodic and generically structured (verse-chorus-verse). You don't have to like songs to have them stuck in your head, you could constantly be singing a single hook to yourself over and over. I only know that because my friends and people I work with complain of having that, "song on the radio" stuck in their head.

That being said, Sum 41 (Underclass Hero) can be classified as Pop-Punk. The album is melodic and full of catchy hooks. Most song structures consist of verse-chorus-verse and for the most part, it is a mainstream style. Even though the album did not produce any hits, it can still fit under a form of "pop" music.
