so we all know the story that they came up with the name "sum 41" because they formed on the 41st day of summer. who thinks this is fact? i think it's quite odd, especially for sum 41 to find out that they formed on the 41st day of summer. does anyone else find it odd? because it's one of those names that you either have to stumble across it or search for it. doesn't this seem like a made up story to you?

I'm pretty sure it's fact. Hasn't the band members confirmed it numerous times in interviews, etc.?

i think its fact, you can think of random facts when thinking up of band names, especially when your trying to be original about it

They never said that the name was made up on the 41st day of summer, just the band. And I agree with bobbyjames, when I was thinking of a band name, I thought 21 corners, because my birthday is on the 21st...march 21st, sane as Deryck's...

i heard once on the radio that its because deryck was on the bus and took all the change out of his pocket and he had 41 cents.

i know they said it a lot etc. , but don't you think that it is weird for the guys to have come up with this name? especially in that way. i dunno, maybe it seems weirder to me than the rest of you guys.

actually now that i think about it, it does seem a bit wierd. esspecially for them. hmmm. somebody should myspace them about it.

They'll say the same thing everytime, they'll deny it. Plus think about it, Deryck's first band was called "Kaspir", that sounds a bit nerdy to me, and I dont think SUM 41 is a nerdy kinda band...like Weezer (Nothing against Weezer, they're just nerds)

Now that Blink-182 doesn't exist anymore, I don't mind the name Sum 41. Although I do kind of find the origin of the name weird. Like, what if they made a band a day earlier or later? Sum 40... Sum 42... those names don't roll off the tongue as well as Sum 41. Sum 41 actually almost rhymes.

How does sum 41 ryme ?? It only roles off the tongue so easily because we've been using it so much and thats the only thing we've heard.
i think if the band had been named sum 42 instead, then we would have thought the name sum 41 sounded wierd

??????? to me it doesn't seem like the sum 41 i know would take the time to figure out what day of the season they formed on just to find a name.

I don't know, when I heard that Sum 41 stood for the band being formed 41 days into summer, it seemed believable to me. It's uninspired, uncreative and something that would probably come from a bunch of 16 year olds (they formed when they were 16, right?).
