i've downloaded a de-fragger, but what exactly is it?

it gives me 2 options: Defrag only and Defrag and optimize

what's the difference?

will it mess with any of my files? I was told somewhere i should defrag my computer, so i'm doing it.

usually you computer has one already in it. but it just makes your pc more "organized" or run more effiecintly sp? but it doesn't really move files just makes your pc run faster.

computer n00blet lolz

basically, ur comp runs programs from certain areas in a certain method

if you have fragmented areas in ur harddrive, it will take longer for ur comp to run and run smoothly all ur programs
a defragger makes ur comp faster by rearranging the fragmented files (defragging the harddrive if u will) so that the comp can run files faster

it makes ur comp faster, and incrreasees ur hd space :D

Well, as you should know, a hard drive is a mechinancal device, i.e Moving parts.

Files tend to get all scattered all over the place, Defragementing takes these files [Usually] are red.
and organizes them all together, so the hard drive can access the files much faster.

Here's a little thing if your confused:

A E A E A E A

What we want is to get all the A's and E's lined up together so we don't have to jump over the E's to get all the A's.
A defragmenter will rearrange the files to look like this

A A A A E E E

That's quite simple processes that can take up at least 18 hours.
If you stiff don't get this, Here's a link to more informatiom

I still really don't know what it does; i just know my computer works better now and it took 18 hours to do.

im pretty sure it goes faster the more often you do it. cause it has less things to move. the first time always takes awhile. especially if you use your pc a lot.
