Because they, or that's what they say, have made important reconstructions and improvements on the kernel and guts of the OS, so you can consider it a new one. Even if it looks like Vista.

The toolbar looks like a bad rip off of Mac's dock. I used to use windows all the time, but I got a Macbook for my school and at first I thought it sucked cuz I was used to windows but after a little while I started to love Mac and I still do. Start using mac and throw out your windows people!

There's 5 parts of the Operating System [Any]:

1st: User Interface [The toolbar, the thing your seeing right now].
2nd File Management [How the OS, views and sorts your files].
3rd Input/Output [How it connects/talks with Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor etc].
4th Memory Management [Is esstinally for Windows to work, for RAM and shit]
5th Kernal [The most protected and most important part of the OS, think of it as the heart of the OS]

Microsoft officals have said that Version 7 is going to more of an upgrade than a new OS.

Basically, from what i've heard, people say vista is better because of all the little things like the sidebar

that's where yahoo widgets comes in on XP and makes it superior

i know that sucks. now i have to hope my pc will last forever (even though i know i won't) cause then i'll have to some new OS with stupid things that serve no purpose other than "looking cool" and take up a bunch of space.

I like the transparent start menu in windows 7. so if you have a ferrari red background, you will get automatically a ferrari red startmenu and taskbar. Looks awesome. I cant say anything about the not optical changes because since windows 95 I forgot all DOS commands....

sorry I know this is an old thread but I see noone wanted to mention the transparent task bar...
