It depends.
I've had quite a few (yes real panic attacks).
For me it feels like i stop breathing/cant breathe. sometimes you feel very sad/angry/scared/trapped. Like i said it depends.
thats why i got pissed off.

Err... never knowing his dad probably has caused him a lot of distress, but I don't think it automatically made him chemically imbalanced.

I know a few people who have grown up without a parent. It doesn't make you mentally unstable.
It's quite obvious that Deryck has suffered some paranoia and insomnia. He has mentioned it in a few interviews.

he's been afflicted with a mom and never even knew his dad! His mental instability is reflected in his lyrics, and his sadness has proved to show some insomnia and paranoia

His insomnia and paranoia is much more likely to be connected to his drug use.
I think his lyrics are at times a bit all over the place, but do not show signs of mental instability.
It's not kind of you to make assumptions and generalize.

I think never knowing his father definatly affected him mentally, maybe not to the extent of paranoia (that was probably the drugs). But i think it definatly could have given him sum insomnia
Also i think its to strong to say that he is not mentally unstable. I mean what living human being is completly mentally stable? I know im not, and i know all the people i've met are not. Everybodys got some mental issue, whether big or small. its just the nature of human beings.

^I didn't mean that he is completely mentally stable. I meant by today's standards and by human standards he is mentally stable. I don't think he is less mentally stable than the "average" person.
