well; i'm looking to buy a bass guitar; and honestly; i have no clue what most of the stuff in the names mean.

what's the difference between a p-bass and an e-bass?

list any helpful terms a first time bass buyer would find handy..

a p-bass is an e-bass

a p (precision) bass is usually made by fender (what cone plays).
"e" stands for electric.

there are also jazz basses (pretty much the same as P's, only slightly different shape. mark hoppus has one)

fenders got the best bass guitars, so i recommend a fender. or u can buy a washburn idol bass series, which looks n sounds awesom http://www.washburn.com/products/basses/wb66.aspx

for under $400, you could get either:
fender squier p-bass or
epiphone thunderbird iv

those two are pretty much the best you can buy. just suggestions...

fender jazz basses

get a precision bass or a jazz bass. try them out in a store before you buy them to be sure which one you like best.

i picked up my left handed fender jazz bass for £10 at a car boot sale. not too shabby eh?

your right, how much do u want to spend? do u want a beginners bass or just a normal 1? wut kinda style u play? wut kinda sound u want?

Thunderbird looks so fugly. I'd say go for a jazz bass. They have the best sound imo. Probably go for a Squier version if they have one cause it'll be cheaper.

Yeah, Fender Jazz and Precision basses are probably the best.
Warwick also have some amazing basses and they are not too expensive.

Thats a 5 strings for example but just so you see what it is. My band's bassist plans to buy such a bass soon
