Take A Look At Yourself = Letterbomb?

did anyone else notice that the opening of Take A Look At Yourself kinda sounds like the opening to Letterbomb by Green Day (after Kathleen Hanna sings the intro of course, like when the music comes in)?

and for the record, i'm not accusing Sum 41 of copying music from Green Day. i'm just stating that i think both the intros sound similar

Maybe in rhythm but the chord progression is completely different!

i found a lot of UH similar to American Idiot. it doesn't mean Sum 41 copied their music but even if deryck denies it i do think he was influenced (at least a little) by American Idiot. back to the original topic, it does kinda sound like it but they're still 2 completely different things to me (i hope that makes sense)

Yea, I think it does....

And the guitar "solo" in UH and AI are similiar IMO

i wanna appreciate sums music becuase they are my favorite band, always have been and always will be, but theres evident signs that their influences are a little too influential as in the case of UH and AI. deryck is obviously an amazing song writer, but who gets the sense that hes running out?

fuck, i started something i shouldnt have.

yea i understand. all your answers make perfect sense to me. it's just that i was listening to TALAY one day and for some reason started "expecting" the lyrics to Letterbomb to come on lol it was weird

American Idiot and Underclass Hero were mixed by the same guy: Chris Lord-Alge

i dont think the mixer guy should be a problem for similarities..its true UH solo guitar is similar to American Idiot one..i always think about that..since it first came out...

It is similar but I prefer the solo in Underclass Hero; it's just so much better than the jobbie one in American Idiot

Totally agree. I thought that the first time I listened to the track but I think it's been pointed out here before. Not sure though.

Yeah, Letterbomb and Take A Look At Yourself have similar sounding instrumental intros.
Take A Look At Yourself also has similar vocal melodies to Welcome to the Black Parade and Man Overboard by Blink 182.

I found this video that'll pretty much explain it all.

I dunno. Some of those are interesting little finds, some are completely superficial, in my opinion, and a lot of those can be drawn between a bunch of different bands and songs. Like the Aliens Exist one. The C-G-A-F or B-F#-G#-E or whatever progression is the single most overmilked and recycled chord progressions in pop-punk music. To name a few songs that use it, Aliens Exist, Dammit, Man Overboard I think, Carousel, all by blink, Makes No Difference, Confusion and Frustration In Modern Times, and I'm sure a few others by Sum 41, Hit Or Miss by New Found Glory, and I'm sure I can find more if I tried.

I've noticed a few of those and The Jester is shockingly similar to that MCR (which disgusts me) but some of them are way off and others really just have the same feel, and not the same progression like One and 88. Also wtf was with comparing Dammit I've Changed Again to Thanks For Nothing? I didn't hear any similarties there at all.
