i'm sorry but i didn't understand very well your question
unless im wrong, you asked how a pick's shape helps, right? if so, you'll notice that it's bigger on one side and it starts kinda getting smaller. the tick side (we're talking in it's wide) is where you hold it (preferably with your thumb on one side and index on the other) and you'll strum with the smaller edge (the pointed one).

try to cover the pick with your fingers as much as you can, this'll help you to hold it better so it wont fall off from your hands while you're playing but dont cover so much that it'll be uncomfortable to play.

hope i helped.

All I can say is try a few different picks and stick with the one that suit you best, myself I like the 0.60mm picks, so I have a supply of about 300 cause I'm awful fond of losing them.

Kind of i guess, i mean, one kind you'll prolly play better with than others. Only by personal preference though.

I think it's just for design. Try playing with the Tortex Fin pick then use a regular one and see if it's any different.

and I agree- the spam has gotten too ridiculous lately. I'm stopping for good.

Different pick sizes and shapes can give you different tones. The bigger the pick, the bigger the tone. The smaller the pick, the smaller the tone.

Sometimes certain picks can help you play certain types of music or help adjust to certain picking styles.

The different gauges (.88mm ...etc) also contribute to tone. Two picks of the same shape but of different gauges will give you different tones. The smaller gauge pick will give you a brighter and thinner sound that the other, thicker pick that will give you more mass and stiffer attack.

Hope that helps.
