i just looked up in the 'how to be a rockstar handbook', and there is no actual rule enforcing that the lead singer must play an instrument!
whom is responsible for this outrage!?

Bruce Dickinson doesn't play any insrument and he's the best lead vocalist there is.
(Iron Maiden FTW)

why do vocalists need to play an instrument aswell? imo, some of the best frontmen around have been singers who don't play instruments aswell, more energetic on stage and are involved with the audience alot more. so in conclusion, this is a pointless thread.

Yeah there is isn't any rule that a singer has to play an instrument.
Lots of bands has singers who are only singers and they are some of the best: Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest, and the guy rides a freakin' bike on stage!), Scott Weiland (Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots), Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta, and he's one energetic dude!), and the list goes on.

and the opposing side of the argument:
Matt Bellamy (muse), Thom Yorke (radiohead), Dave Grohl (foo fighters), Kurt Cobain (nirvana), Billie Joe Armstrong (green day), Deryck Whibley, Tim Wheeler (ash), Rivers Cuomo (weezer), John Squire (stone roses), Joe Strummer (the clash)
pretty pointless argument, theres thousands of good examples for each side.
some people do find it hard to sing and play at the one time, and sometimes, that extra guitar just isnt neccessary

lol for the sake of the argument, i can list some great singer/bassists:
Lemmy (Motorhead), Gene Simmons (Kiss), Mark Hoppus (Blink 182, +44), Tyson Ritter (All-American Rejects), Fat Mike (NOFX), Cronos (Venom), Phil Lynnot (Thin Lizzy), Tom Araya (Slayer), Jerry Only (Misfits), Kip Winger (Winger), Les Claypool (Primus), Sting (The Police), Paul McCartney (The Beatles) but thats just for fun, tor the sake of the arguement.
