To continue with our NFL montage of a post, who do you think will win the Cup this year. I hope Pittsburgh will win, but Detroit is a bit of a powerhouse and that 4-0 win is kinda like salt in the wounds. Anyways, what are your opinions?

Crosby is the most overrated player in the league.

Obviously you haven't seen Crosby play other than these finals. He's very good.
And even Gordie Howe said: "Everywhere you look you see Crosby's picture, and it's earned."

What I'm concerned about is that Pens don't shoot at all. They always try to make some skilled plays and perfect shots, but Wings' defense is too packed for those. Pens need to shoot more, from bad angels too.

And Marc-Andre needs to get in the shape he was during the previous rounds.

Actually, Crosby is really overrated. Everyone thinks he's the new god of hockey even though he's at best the 4th best forward on the ice in this series. The Wings' duo of Zetterberg and Datsyuk are both better than Crosby and so is his own teammate, Malkin. You may disagree, as it's an arguable thing... but Malkin lead the team throughout the season, and I think it will take at least 2 more years before Crosby becomes this hockey god everyone believes that he is.

Also, if you think about a guy that really is amazing, you have to look at probably the best forward in the NHL, and also now the highest played player in the NHL. Ovechkin actually DID take a team to the playoffs on his own. You can say that Semin or Nylander or whoever made huge contributions... but Ovechkin really took the tteam on his own. They only have one all star caliber player and a bunch of mediocre players. They still managed to make the playoffs and almost went to the 2nd round.

My main problem with Crosby is the fact that he is considered to be the best forward in the NHL, and he has at least 4 players right now that are better than him.


Also, regarding Fleury... Fleury definitely needs to put the Penguins on his shoulders if he wants to win this. The Red Wings are playing 10x better than they have in the previous rounds, and the Penguins need to worry about scoring a goal before they can worry about winning a game. Fleury has been terrible in net in 2 games so far. He has let in a lot of really crappy goals, and he just can't do that if they want to compete with the Wings.


My question for the people on this forum: Do you think the Penguins can still beat the Red Wings? I want an honest answer. I don't want any biased shit in here (ex: OMGZ THE PENGUINS WILL WIN BECAUSE THEY'RE AMAZING AND THE RED WINGS WILL CHOKE LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO). I have enough of that on PD. I want to know a reason that the Penguins will beat the Red Wings now. After being raped in games 1 and 2... not even scoring a goal... how the fuck can the Penguins come back?

Well, god is a bit overrated expression, yeah, but Crosby is really good. I said good, not god. Hossa has sucked in these finals, so Crosby is all alone in his line in this series. Zetterberg and Datsyuk play together, and have been very solid so far. But one playoff series shouldn't tell about the players' skills. Also, Crosby was injured about 30 games this season, so that's why he hadn't got as many points as Malkin.
Crosby was first in points in 06-07, and sixth in 05-06, his rookie season. You have to look the player by overall, not by one playoff series.

To compare the first three seasons of these players in points:
Crosby had 102, 120 and 72
Zetterberg had 44, 43 and 85
Datsyuk had 35, 51, 68.

Of course, the times were different and teammates and linemates do have an impact.

Ovechkin is the best player of the league, no doubt about it. But NHL has decided to promote Crosby as the face of the league. Hockey is originally a Canadian sport, so they wanted to use Canadian player as the face, not Russian one.

But of course, like you said, who's the best is a matter of opinion, and we can't really argue about it.

But to answer your question, I really see there's some hope for Pens, if they play at the level they can. Hossa has struggled big time, missing open nets in game three in high percent. If their best winger doesn't know where the net is, it's going to be a hard way to the cup.

If Penguins play at the level they played on previous rounds, I can't see why couldn't they win it all. But judging by the first three finals, I must admit that I would be surprised if the cup doesn't go to Hockeytown.

By "In this series" I didn't mean who will/has played the best in the series... I meant the forwards that are overall the best.
The reason that Zetterberg and Datsyuk don't have the points that Crosby has is because the Wings don't rely on one line to get the job done 100% more than the other lines. They play a game with 4 lines. Datsyuk and Zetterberg may have only totalled the small amounts of points that they had, but the Wings as a team led the league in goals. The Penguins have to rely on Crosby and Malkin to get millions of points because the rest of the team can't. They balance the offense differently. If Zetterberg played on a team where he was the only guy able to do things he'd probably win an MVP trophy or two also. That's why you saw a difference in the numbers for Yzerman in the 80s and the 90s. Once they hired Scotty Bowman, the whole way he played changed. He no longer thought he had to be the guy who scored 5 goals if they wanted to win, he had to try to rely on the rest of the team to also do things.

And now to the finals... game 3 was amazing. It was everything you could have asked for in a game. The only thing bad about it was that AGAIN the refs made shitty calls. The Red Wings should have won that game... as usual. That's what happened in the Dallas series, too. the Dallas series should have ended in 4 but they cancelled 2 goals because of shitty calls... and they did it again last night.

The refs suck... and Crosby actually did play well. I have to be honest. He scored twice, and that was exactly what they needed. To further my point on the best players in the series... yes, Crosby is playing the best... but Malkin and Hossa are both playing terrible. The whole Penguins team is playing poorly. Crosby definitely stepped it up.
