James Rollins. He hass REALLY good books, and he currently has 9 big hits out. The best book by him is probably, Black Order, or Amazonia. Subterranean, Excavation, Ice Hunt, and Amazonia have monsters in them. He has 9 major books out now

Subterranean
Excavation
Deep Fathom
Amazonia
Ice Hunt
Sandstorm
Map of Bones
Black Order
Judas Strain

There should be another book coming out this year.

EDIT: None of the books go into each other, except for Sandstorm, Map of Bones, and Black Order. There is also a person from Deep Fathom who appears in Black Order.

Ted Dekker is really good. His best books are Thr3e, House, Saint, Black, Red, White, Skin and Showdown.

He's really good if you like horror suspense type stuff.

Defiantly Anthony Horowitz...
His Alex Rider series was so good they made the first book into a movie, and in the books, every word makes sense from beginning to end. Like say it said "Alex was haed" or something like that, it would make sense at the end

I recently started reading the works of Kelley Armstrong, I'm reading the first novel called Bitten, it's a really good read. I'm going to buy some of the others in the series soon.
