...Making my lyrics singable, if you know what I mean. I have no real problem writing guitar and drum parts, no problem writing lyrics, but I really can't get my lyrics to get into the song. I can't figure how I should sing the lyrics, how fast they should go, etc.
Does anyone have any advice as to how I can fix my problem? Thanks

I don't know if you already do this, but maybe record and play the song and then sing gibberish over it to find a nice vocal melody. Then just adjust your lyrics to fit that melody accordingly.
I don't know how well that technique works, I just know some bands do that and it seems to work pretty well for them.

what i do in a situation like that is make some words longer than others in a verse. that way it'll fill in for the melody and your lyrics wont be shit. remember that in a song every lyric counts
hope i could help

thats what deryck from sum 41 does, or did. If you watched the making of underclass hero, he does it for confusion and frustration in modern times and he did it for over my head.budgie wrote:that worked once for me :DGunner wrote:I don't know if you already do this, but maybe record and play the song and then sing gibberish over it to find a nice vocal melody. Do you tune by ear or use a tuner?Bullet_For_My_Valenzine wrote:dude i try and try, the fucking shit just wont tunebudgie wrote:hahaBullet_For_My_Valenzine wrote:the hardest part of music in all for me is getting my damn guitar stringed and tuned.

Sometimes when using a tuner you just have to keep picking at the string while tuning it, because sometimes if you have a cheap one, they can go all wonky even when you haven't touched anything.
But then again, it might be the tuners on your guitar or the bridge.
I'm like kevin5064, I'll write a riff or chord progression that I really like, but then it will be like, "it seems like I heard this somewhere before..." and lo and behold, I'll find out I've written a song similar to one of my favorite bands. I also don't write down stuff I come up with, which I probably should end up doing.

Re: The hardest part of writing music for me is...
That often happens to me too. But then I just need to change the tone or else. Anyway I remember someone asked Deryck in Q&A about how to make music, deryck said it was fine for the beginning, copying a song that we like then change some part of it. Maybe what deryck meant here we could be influenced by other songs then try them on our song with some changes.I'm like kevin5064, I'll write a riff or chord progression that I really like, but then it will be like, "it seems like I heard this somewhere before..." and lo and behold, I'll find out I've written a song similar to one of my favorite bands. I don't really know how to fit the lyrics into the song, because that's my problem too haha. Do you make the whole music yourself? Why don't you ask your band about that maybe the vocalist can handle that
I'm budgie's noob, and he made the sig

I think the trick is writing the music, then coming up with a vocal melody, then writing the lyrics. But I suppose everyone has their own way.
The bassist in Fall Out Boy writes the lyrics first, then the singer composes music to it.

Re: The hardest part of writing music for me is...
When I write a song if I write all the music to it first, then write the lyrics, i end up making a good song. but If i start with lyrics and melody, i never seem to get my music to fit in haha if that makes any sense.

I like to write music first. Lyrics usually just pop into my head while I play.
