My fish had babies!

Fuck yeahhh!

I've been into tropical fishkeeping for a little over a year now...had livebearers, amoung others, the entire time...and have never had a successful pregnancy. UNTIL NOW!

My platies, Red (poppa) and Gingey (momma) had babies, and I didn't even know *lol*. I was doing their partial water change today and a tiny tiny fish swam up to the glass and was looking at me. I about peed, and also about dropped the bucket of water I was pouring into the tank *lol*

I've now fished out all that I could see in there (there's 5), and seperated them so they don't get eaten. Gingey still looks loaded, though...so she may pop out a few more over the next couple days!

They are effing CUTE. I haven't had a positive first in fishkeeping in a LONG time. Usually the firsts are all "first time with fish tuberculosis!" or "first time with flexibactor bacteria!"...it's nice to have "first time fish grandma!" instead this time! haha

Here's the babes! There's 5 of them. And they're in a betta cup a little smaller than a margarine tub:

Here's their family:

Handsome Uncle Tyler Durden was too excited about the new arrivals to stop and flare and the pen haha

And big Uncle Dante, checking things out through very dirty glass

I doubt any of you care, but I don't care if you care *lol* I'm stoked!

Were they platies? I think sometimes maybe they just aren't attracted or something? Maybe some of them are gay *lol*

It reminds me , my goldfish is very close to death , he can't seem to swim normally , he's trying to , but he keeps turning over , i feel sad 'cause i always liked that fish , he was pretty chubby .

I remember i'd use to save little fishbabies , i have like 8 different kinds of fish right now , it's nice to just look what they do and stuff , i used to have a tv on that same place , but this is much better , lol .

Oh yea, and congradulations for the tiny ones !

My goldfish, Big Poppa Dante, is 4 years old :D. He cost me 17 cents. He murdered and ate at least 4 other fish. He's pretty much the coolest guy I know. He's 5" long, and could fit the end of my pinky finger into his mouth without any discomfort. Much love for my Dante <3 Goldfish kickass.

Janet, your goldy probably has either swim bladder disease, or dropsy. Either way, there's really not anything you can do. He may also just be dying. Please, though - don't flush him before he's dead. There are other ways to euthanize him, if you want to...but flushing is extremely stressful and painful for fish, and should not EVER happen to live fish. Ever.

And to the one who had the fish at like, 7-10? No offense to your parents...but that's extremely inhumane of them to leave a kid that young and unable to be responsible for pets in charge of living creatures :S. Poor fish...

Here's more/better pics of the babes!

I woke up and saw that he wasn't like that anymore . He seemed better this morning . But i've never flushed a fish down the toilet in my entire life . I've always buried them , when they are dead .

Glad you're not a flusher! And glad your fish is better? Maybe he was just constipated...

PS - as of right now, all 5 wee fishies are still alive. I also got a new adult platy today. Was buying a net for the babies to live in in the big tank, and saw a pretty female platy - commented out loud that I really liked her - and whammo, my awesome mom decided to buy her for me! So woot for that, 'cause I'm fucking brokeass mofo, can't even afford to pay off my visa bill this month stylez.

y'know what i find realy stupid? when you go and buy fish, the worker shoves the net in the tank and moves the net around at frickin 100mph and pretty much gives the fish a heart attack. :?

Yeah really eh? As if the whole drive-home-in-a-bag-then-thrown-into-a-new-home thing isn't stressful enough for the fish. I don't buy from stores like that 'cause those fish almost always die when they get home...it's lame.

For the record - the new platy I got on Friday just had babies tonight as well! I've caught 4 of them so far, and there are at least 4 others that I can't find (they're clear :|)!

Also, all 5 of the originals are still alive and kicking! *knocks on wood*
