Underclass Hero

Post by Mr-David-Blues »

Ive bn listning to all the Sums older stuff like HHOP AKNF DTLI
anyway, I listened to Underclass Hero and all i can say is wow

Underclass Hero - an amazing song that reminds me of the Sums older stuff
This song somehow makes me happy and makes me have no cares in the world at all

Walking Disaster - How good is this song? Lyrically it is a masterpeice. arguably one of their best

Speek Of The Devil - Another Lyrical Masterpeice. You can Tell how much Derycks voice has improved over the years in this song

Dear Father - A very personal song which is beautifuly written

Count Your Last Blessings - A very different but very good song, Both Lyrically and Vocally

Ma Poubelle - Another short song, compares to Never Wake Up in AKNF. Makes me laugh =]

March Of The Dogs - Such a powerfull and amazing song

The Jester - I love the way March Of The Dogs Fades away into this song, another Powerfull and amazing song

With Me - Its Such a Beautiful Song both Lyrically and Vocally

Pull The Curtain - Another Masterpeice. Arguably another one of thier best.
How good is Derycks voice in this song? The Scream gives me shivers down my spine its that good

King Of Contradiction - Another Fast-paced song which is again both good vocally and lyrically

Best Of Me - Another one which can be argued to be thier best. Another Beautifully Written song with the vocals to match it

Confusions And Frustration In Modern Times - Another very good song with the lyrics to match

So Long Goodbye - Very Nicley written song

I know this was a lot 2 read but that is my opinion of all the songs on the Album. I just feel you can tell how much better not just Deryck, but also Cone and Steve have improved over the years.
I dont think Underclass is thier best album because i think ALL of the sums albums are thier best. The reason i think this is because every1 likes a bit of variety, and each album gives a different taste of music IMO. Like Some days you might wana listen 2 Chuck and other days you might fancy listening to HHOP ect.
Well theres my oppinion
But what do you guys think?

The album as a whole, listening to it from beginning to end, you can tell there was a lot of thought put into it this time around. Saying that, it's nice to see there isn't a single "fake" in any of the lyrics and "blame" is only said in two songs.

But it's too repetative, musically, I believe. Same chord progressions and songs on the album sharing the same melodies. And that one note (2nd fret, 5th string, I forget the name) is played in a lot as a single note. If anyone is wondering what I mean, it's the note being played at the beginning of March of the Dogs.

I do like all the songs on the album. But it's stuff that's been done before and that's something that really bugs me. There's very little to no originality.

The note is B. Theres only eight notes in music and how many chord progressions can you come up with? The biggest bands in the world base almost all their music around a pentatonic or major scale with a note progression of IV - V - II or whatever it is!

I'm not saying there's an album like that out there that has been done before.
I'm just saying I think it's a little cliche sounding album.

You don't think no one has sung about broken homes, missing fathers, and personal demons before?

I don't have an armada of bands to say, but Green Day is the big one. Blink only realtes to the Sums melodically speaking. It just seems to me like Deryck is trying to get the band famous again. The story of the band that "rose to the top despite all the odds" is always epic.

If Underclass Hero was completely original and refreshing, Underclass Hero and Walking Disaster would be everywhere topping the charts and whatnot.

Yeah he's probably right.

And even if you can say they sound a little bit like Green Day or Blink in this album (which i personally don't really think), i just think that being done in the sums style, its really great and all.

Anyway, great album, yeah not as original as their past albums and yet its being done really great.

@Mr-David-Blues: It's nothing against you, but your so called "Review" doesn't give any opinion on the songs, just that they are good. But there are no really proofs or arguments...just that Song Number X is well written and vocally "well-done", wow!
There's no real substance or examples where you are conclude your opinion. What you wrote is totally general and superficiel in my opinion.

good original music =/= popular

the people who buy most singles (ie. preteen girls) depend on repetition
anything that sounds different from the crap they already listen to will most likely not have chart success

in theory, anyway
