Free graphic-design-esq program?

I'm looking for something simple, and free, that I can download online to use to make some random little banner things for my concert series when I feel like it, rather than having to call on favours from people all the time, and wait 'til someone has time etc. etc.

I'm attempting to download this right now: http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/softwa ... efault.asp

I have it downloaded, and halfway setup, but now it's stalled at 100% of the "copying fonts" and yeah...

I'm getting sick of waiting. Was wondering if anyone knew of any free programs they'd recommend?

EDIT: Okay, it's totally installed. Still interested in recommendations, though, or if anyone has used what I just downloaded before and what you think of it.

FREE is key, dude. Photoshop is NOT free haha.

And Jonny, are you calling me a gimp, or is that a program name? haha

Those don't work anymore. And PD doesn't bother replacing the links or taking them down.

Ugh. That program won't let me actually use the banner as a photo.

I hate graphic design. HATE IT.

I give up *lol*

Thanks for your tips guys.

I got paint shop pro from pd.

the bloody crack doesn't work for me though. I'm guessing Vista's fault.

Yep same. The one I downloaded though didn't have to be cracked or anything though.
