straight edge is something emo's have turned into a fad, although they haven't experienced all these certain things like drugs, alcahol and what have you, they rule them out completely. I think it originated from some hardcore punk scenes but what do i know.

Although i don't drink or do drugs, i would never call my self straight edge. It just sounds a little bit faggy :P

I know you've decided not to drink now, and good on you. You shouldn't drink because some girl wants you too.

Straight Edge is a way of life/culture [just like emo... I guess we could say...] that originated from hardcore rock music. Straight Edge people basically stay away from alcohol, drugs and one night stands. One of the most recognizable characteristic of Straight Edge people [not saying all of 'em have it] are X's on both hands, the initials sXe or the initials xXx.
