just read on ultimate guitar that smashing pumpkins are re-releasing some album(not sure which one) but that they have a song called Ma Belle. i thought it was pretty unusual. it wasnt released the first time the album was released so its a new song. any thoughts on it? its obviously a coincidence cos sums didnt know pumpkins had a song called that even though it was written before sums were even together!

Poubelle = Garbage can
Belle = beautiful

Not really a connection. Just sounds the same.

Wow, sumfan, you do not know French.

Anyway, yeah. There's no real significance of this, they're not connected at all except they're both French titles.

I'd expect sumfan not to know french since i'm guessing he's in japan. heck, i was born in toronto and it didn't help sitting in french class 1 hour every day i still don't know french and I sure as hell didn't know what poubelle meant before sum 41 made it known.

i regret now not knowing french but i suck at learning languages.

lol, i think the only connection is that maybe sum's Ma Poubelle is a parody on Smashing pumpkins' Ma Belle, like in the title.
dunno what's the pumpkins' song about, but i guess maybe the sums just parodied the title.

i'm guesing poubelle (poo-bell) is supposed to be a throwoff of plus belle (plew-bell) which means very beautiful.
but yeah this smashing pumpkins thing is weird

Ma Belle means "song-titles-shouldn't-be-more-subject-of-discussion-than-Deryck's-hair-on-this-forum" or something..

I highly doubt even that. I think the idea for the title and the lyrics just came from Steve's crazy little mind.

I guess you're right, but who knows.

"Can you say 'failing' in french, Gunner?"

I pretty sure I had no choice but to do it from grades 4 to 6. Then from grades 7 to 9 it was just an option class you could take (which I never did).

It was still and option in high school and I took it in grade 10 only so then I could get into colleges easier.

How's that helped you getting into colleges if you haven't learned anything :lol:

in my school we were taught french all the way from kindergarten to and including grade 9. 10-12 its optional.

i didn't take it because
1. i would have a less chance getting a good mark than in any other class

2. i wasn't decieved by the teacher saying we do fun stuff

3. i plan on taking algebra at the end of grade 12. and i figured, if it comes down to me having algebra and no french, and another guy with no algebra and french, who do you think is gonna get into the collage/ university ??

Haha, yeah I had a really easy French 10 class (there was no final exam). I mean, I did pretty well in French 10 and all the assignments we did. I averaged out at about a 75%. But it's been three years of me not speaking or doing anything with french so I forgot a lot of the stuff I learned. Some words I can recognize, but I don't think I can form proper sentences.

Colleges just look at you marks anyways. They see that you have a good final mark so they assume you know the stuff pretty well still (even if you don't).

I used to be able to say that Michael Jackson likes the petite garcons, but not anymore.
