Hey has anyone here taken a gap or are thinking of doing a gap year? For those of you who don't know what a gap year is, I don't know if you have it in the US or Canada or where ever you are from, but basically after you finish high school, instead of going straight into Uni you defer your course, and take the year off and travel or do what ever. So yeah has anyone done it, and what did you do, did you enjoy it? I'm thinking of doing it but wanted to hear what other people thought.

Here (Portugal) we don't do GAP years. We finish high school and go straight to University.

wow i feel old :P i finished up year 12 last year... i didnt do a GAP year though... i had thought about doin one but in the end i decided id do the whole uni thing because i sort of knew that (for me personally) if i didnt do it right away i wouldnt end up going at all... but quite a few of my mates are currently taking GAP years and are loving it... some of them are simply spending the year travelling (mostly backpacking round Europe) others are living abroad in England and France, i believe some of them took positions as nannys so they are living with a family and looking after their children... the rest are simply taking the year off to just work and earn money...

Yeah, see I pretty much have no idea what I want to do, so if I go to Uni I'll probably just do a general arts course and then see if i think of something I want to work towards as a career, but yeah that's why I thought a gap year would be kind of cool, just to travel and think about what I want to do, but yeah i still don't know...

yeh i know how you feel... thats the same reason i was thinkin bout taken a year off... i just couldnt decide on what i wanted to do... even now i still dont exactly know... i just ended up grabbing the UAC guide and went and crossed out all the things i absolutely did not want to do in the end i was left with three courses i thought were okish so i figured screw it i need to apply for something they'll do and if i have some kind of epiphany in the next few years of what i want as a career then i can always change courses... thats the key thing to remember... getting into uni's the hard part once your in you can apply to transfer into whatever you want

My sister is working for a whole year until she finally decides what she wants to do in life. She graduated high school this year.
