Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Post by withchappedlips »

Anyone go to a midnight release for this? Anyone plan to get it? Anyone stay up all night playing it?

I'm about to get it tonight, and if anyone here has played with me, you'll know I spend days upon days of my life playing these games!

If anyone in the US or Canada wants to play with me, my PSN ID is iSeeKyle, and my XBL Gamertag is TeachMeHow2Kyle! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

I am also aware that a lot of people on this site hate the COD series with a passion, but I really enjoy it and I don't think I'm the only one! :)
And I know I said I needed space,

but I know I can't be comfortable in my own skin.

So when I say I'm scared to be alone, you know I mean it,

I'm just not ready to leave my room.

Not gonna buy it, I dislike the treyarch games and I also hate the new futuristic approach they've taken.
Besides, I didn't enjoy the last few call of duty games as much as I used to.

By the way, how are you not playing it yet? My friends got it last night.

Actually Black Ops 2 looks like awesome game. Multiplayer + zombie mode especially. Might even get this one, though not in the near future because they always release games that are not ready and patch things up, so in half a year this game might be working well!

I guess the reason I'd be asking you this is because I have no idea why you'd be BUYING the game just to play the campaign, for one. The campaign in COD games is ALWAYS short and kinda shitty. COD games are meant for the Multiplayer action! The second is, why buy it when you can just rent it for much cheaper? Finally, why trade it in when you could get more online on somewhere like eBay or something?

Also, I just played this for the first time tonight. Multiplayer, obviously, and it's definitely a Treyarch game. I have a feeling I'm going to love this more than any other COD game I've played. I thought Black Ops was the best COD game (other than COD4) heading into this, but this one may be even better.
And I know I said I needed space,

I nearly bought this last night, but didn't. I haven't been bothered about this one until yesterday. I liked the first Black Ops, and preferred it to MW3. And like Kyle, I have wasted hours of my life playing these games.

I enjoyed the Black Ops campaign. It cost me a total of £12. And also earnt me £1 worth of reward points. And I didn't have to wait to have it posted to me to rent it xD and I doubt I'd have got £30 for it on EBay.

Though I'm not going to get this game (I haven't got time for being a hardcore gamer any more), I have to say that Treyarch have proven themselves over the past six years to be a much better developer than Infinity Ward. While the first Modern Warfare game was decent, the second and third were the worst titles in the CoD series. I'm not going to get this instalment, but it does look really good.

My main problem with games like CoD and Battlefield (though as a franchise, I love Battlefield) is the publisher cash-cow scheme of giving you half a game and charging you double for the missing bits. Whoever first thought of doing this the non-Valve way (ie. not absolutely free like they should be) is a bastard.

Edit: The game has gotten some great reviews so far; it's actually making me consider buying it.

New York Daily News wrote:this is easily the finest Call of Duty game ever made
Game Trailers wrote:It does so many new things so very well, making it the most groundbreaking Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare.
IGN and Game Trailers gave the game 93 and 94 percent, though the Metacritic rating currently sits at 86.

I wouldn't put battlefield into the same cash cow category as CoD. The running costs for Battlefield are 1000x what CoD costs EA. So it's only fair they charge 2nd users for online access and such. Dice actually put time and effort into creating a revolutionary engine. CoD has used the exact same for the last 5 games.

Dice are one of the best devs around. I'm referring to EA trying to turn them into the next Infinity Ward.

Yeah. Just edited my post.

I think EA is the reason behind Battlefield 4 seemingly being not far round the corner (when using the time difference between 2 & 3 as a reference, anyways.) But then again. They do have a (sort of) near perfect engine. Which is what takes years of research and development to create.

I can't see how they can improve on Bf3 atm. In terms of gameplay and overall features etc. obviously it needs minor tweaks, but nothing that seems to warrant the release of an entire game to fix. Which is exactly what CoD has been since 2007.

I heard Black Ops 2 campaign is absolutely insane... I haven't touched campaigns on COD since MW2, but I may have to if this is the case.

Some say it's awesome, some say it's too complex. BO1 had the best CoD campaign IMO.

CoD campaigns are indeed complex. In fact... Most FPS games are. Rarely does time flow in a straight line through them.

I think growing up with PC RPGs has somewhat put me off games like CoD and Battlefield. Not nearly enough strategy involved for me.

Haha, that's fantastic. Notice how they didn't have WaW there. That was a great campaign... never really liked any of the Modern Warfare ones.
