Asked him some questions, and he was kind enough to answer them. So I decided to post it for you to see.

Sorry for the late response. Glad you liked the Queen cover. I think its the best cover we've ever done live. It looks like we won't be touring this summer. Maybe in the fall, not quite sure yet. Probably gonna try and get some OPMD shows going this summer if Todd is off a bit with Offspring. Don't think we are going to release Like Everyone Else with OpMD yet, it still could go on the next Sum album (who knows) but Todd and I are talking about recording a new song this summer to release on Itunes world wide. Hope that answered all your questions.
Cone.

Okay... So my problem is not that they won't do tour this summer and maybe not even in the fall... It's okay, but why heck they can't tell us why? Why can't they communicate with us at all? What's going on with them? :holyshit:

I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little crushed to hear the Sums won't be touring this summer. I thought forsure when Deryck's back incident was an issue again that I'd probably have a chance to see them by the summer since they cancelled a bunch of shows and tours (including a Canadian one in Oct '11.) I was kind of hoping they'd be touring the rest of 2012, especially since they haven't had any US/Canada promotion for SBM. Although, I figured this was the case since Tom announced some Canadian Gob shows throughout the summer. It's good for that reason and for Cone/OpMD. Hopefully they'll pick up the touring in the fall.

They'll start touring once the BIME video is released, so I'm saying middle of 2013

As sad as it is to see, this band is slowly fading away without the help from anyone else.

Noooo. If they're not touring they should be writing new music. It's like there's no vitality, no energy. You see some bands bust out an album, tour and once the tour is done they say something like "writing new tunes!" on Twitter or something.

Surely the band would have some decent material from the Screaming Bloody Murder sessions that would be good enough to put on a new album. As much as I love the new record I don't want it to become a habit where they take over 3 years to put out music. They even stated on Twitter that Deryck said it "took him 5 minutes" to write A Dark Road Out of Hell.

I don't know. Aside from editing the music video it's like Sum 41 has no clear direction of what they're doing or plan on doing.

Definitely. There really is a complete lack of energy about everything they do nowadays, and I'm not quite sure what's causing it. Green Day released an album in 2009, started writing new material from then on, played handfulls of demos at live shows from 2010 onwards, and now, two years later, they have 3 albums' worth of songs set for release in a few months. That's because Green Day have the highest energy of any band I know (maybe not Zebrahead - those guys are nuts). But the Sums just don't share the same enthusiasm for their music anymore. I don't think it's that they don't take their careers seriously anymore, but they definitely don't know where they're going from here and Deryck is too much of a perfectionist to casually write music in his free time which he thinks wouldn't be release-worthy. The band really gave it their all when releasing Screaming Bloody Murder but, due to factors such as the label cancelling their music video and other promotion, and Deryck's back problems, I think they've just run out of steam. Not that I see it as a likely future, but I wouldn't be massively surprised to see the band fall into hiatus at some point in the near future.

the fact that they don't release any musicvideo or any video at all totally makes up for forgetting to reschedule just one of the many shows that got cancelled over the last two..three... .. four years

Guy recovers from a near broken back and people moan about his project not being active enough. Give them a break, they do have lifes to live.

They wouldn't moan if they didn't see pics of said guy with the nearly broken back drunk as fuck pretty much every week.
Seriously if you're ill for touring you're ill for parties too.
