HALP!

Post by Gregorovich »

In trying to export my 'A Dark Road Out of Hell' from an audio/video editor,I don't know what would result in the lowest qualiity loss. I'm not a very technical person when it comes to sound files, so can somebody explain something to me?

1. What is the bit rate and how does it impact the quality of the music?
2. Is a higher frequency better or worse?
3. Are there any other factors that enter into the quality of sound files?

THANKS GAIZ!!!

I'm interested in these things aswell, but I don't know anything about them.
But these two pages have been a big help when I've tried to figure out these things.

Also, does anybody know of a lossless FLAC - MP3 converter? All the ones I've tried so far are either costly or bad quality.

Audacity + LAME should be able to.

If you're talking about audio then here are my answers:
1. High bitrate = good quality, I'd say 192k is a minimum
2. Higher frequency is better for example when you record something, generally the frequency of the CDs is 44,1kHz
3. I'd say that the converter you'll use affect their quality, there are often some kind of profiles for encoders such as MP3, if you can, try to choose the slowest one.

i'm taking audio engineering at school, you want to export and audio file at a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, and a Bit depth at 16-bit. this way you will get "cd quality". if you use these specs i'd say for sure you will get a 320kbps bit rate.

heres also some info on file types.
.WAV = uncompressed -very large file
.FLAC or .MP4 (apple lossless) - no quality loss, half the size as .WAV
.MP3 or .WMA (lossy) - some quality loss, small file size

converting from .MP3 to .FLAC or .WAV won't do anything for the quality because once you convert a file into a lossy format, it cannot get any of it's quality back.
you have far too much time on your hands
