1) What made you want to start playing music ?
2) If you wouldn't have be in Gob nor Sum 41, what job you would have try to do ?
3) Before you start playing in Sum 41, what did you think about the band ?
4) And what was the first song of Sum 41 you heard ?
5) What are your favorite ones ?
6) Explain precisely how your integration in the band happened ?
7) How did react the guys from Gob ?
8) Do you remember about the first rehearsal, how did you feel ?
9) Is there a chance that you would write a song for Sum 41 all by yourself ? And sing in it ?
10) Do you work more with Sum 41 or Gob ?
11) What guitar do you prefer the most ?

1) From as far as I can remember I always banged around on whatever instrument was handy, my grandma's piano, my grandfather's guitars or his banjo. I started playing drums when I was 12 then moved onto guitar when I couldn't afford a drumset. I was a paperboy at the time and could only manage to save a couple hundred dollars to buy a guitar. I really got motivated to learn the guitar well when I heard Gun's Roses Appetite for Destruction, It was the most badass record I'd ever heard. I learned the entire thing note for note, all instruments.

2) I'm not really sure what I'd do if I wasn't in a band. I think maybe go to University. Forever.

3) Gob and Sum41 had toured together quite a bit so I was already friends with everyone in Sum41 before I started playing with them. I always liked them, I liked how they always progressed with every new recording.

4) The first Sum41 song I heard was Makes no difference. It was at a show somewhere in southern Ontario, they were opening for gob at the time. I remember them doing some sort of choreographed routine in the breakdown, haha, I was impressed by their attention to detail.

5)My current favorite Sum41 songs are- Still waiting, 88, Fatlip, Mr. Amsterdam, The Jester, Confusion/Frustration, Screaming bloody murder, Holy image of lies, Sick of everyone.

6) My integration into the band happened naturally. Writing with Deryck was definitely a catalyst. Deryck knows I write a lot of music so he asked to hear some stuff I'd been working on, that's how the song Screaming Bloody Murder came to be. Once we were collaborating writing, it led to me doing more stuff with the band in the studio, pre-production etc.

7)The gob guys have been supportive of me playing with Sum41. Gob hasn't been touring full time for a few years so it was sort of perfect timing. Gob's touring schedule cooled down and Sum asked me to play with them.

8)The first rehearsal with Sum41 went really smooth. I was asked to learn guitars and vocals for 88, Hell song and Still Waiting. I could tell right away that it was working well. We also played Underclass hero and Walking disaster, I just learned those on the spot. They asked me to start the next day and I learned 30 or so songs, guitar/vocals/piano over the next few weeks.

9) I'll definitely continue to write songs intended for Sum41. As far as singing lead vocals, If the guys wanted me to sing a song, I would do it but Deryck is the singer for Sum41. I ain't tryin to fuck with that.

10) I work more with Sum41 since Sum41 tours so much. I write the majority of gob's songs and Theo and I produce our records so gob still takes up a lot of my time.

11) I prefer to play Gibson Les Pauls and Gibson SG's live. In the studio I also use Fender Stratocasters, Fender telecasters, Gibson, ES335's and a Gibson ES339 and other guitars. 12) I'm really happy with how the Sum41 album turned out. I can't wait to play more of the new stuff live. I'm also working on a gob record now, It's sounding really awesome, can't wait for people to hear it too. It's shaping up to be a big year for me. There is a also record I produced by the band 'By a Thread' coming out soon.

Hmm Gobfansunite was banned? WTF? Here's some suggestions for a domain name churchofgob gobarmy gobfancentral gobfreaks

Awesome interview. Seeing how Tom likes 'The Jester' and '88', maybe the Sums might play those songs more often :winkwink:

That would be awesome! I think that those 2 songs are better than some songs they play live now

Why are you confused? It's been confirmed for a week or two already that it's:

A Dark Road Out Of Hell
7. Holy Image Of Lies
8. Sick Of Everyone
9. Happiness Machine

But yeah, a great interview! Good questions and great answers!

Cool interview! Enjoyed reading it! Cone and Steve already said to Tomi that they're bringing back 88, right? so that could be awesome! I think The Jester would also work live... too bad they never played it live (or did they play that only once too, at that only show where they ever played CYLB?), it could work as a live song. One of the more guitar driven songs of UH.
