realistic new set list

we all know the sums will be back on tour next week. i was thinking of what a good set list would be, to REALLY change it up compared to previous tours, yet still being realistic about what songs the guys can play and want to play. on itunes this is about 50 minutes, so with all the banter, i think this works, and i'm thinking of passing on the suggestion.

Mr. Amsterdam
Skumfuk
Motivation
Hell Song
Underclass Hero
Makes No Difference
No Brains
Screaming Bloody Murder
March Of The Dogs
Machine Gun
Welcome To Hell OR KOC
88
Still Waiting
In Too Deep
We're All To Blame

No Reason
Fat Lip
P4P

i didn't consider tunings of songs, so any guitar guys want to comment?

songs i dropped: Over My Head, My Direction, Walking Disaster, Pieces

i'd give those up for the 'new' ones above... i'd also love to see Moron or Confusion/Frustration but i think we have less of a chance with those. what are your thoughts?

Seems like a good setlist to me.. I would've left in Over my head but I don't know which song to replace it with..
but it's not that useful cause they'll only play a few shows before the new album drops and they start playing new songs

The tuning doesn't really matter cause they are constantly switching guitars anyways.. if it does matter you can always change the order

mostly the same songs, just a different order. i think all i have to say about yours is they wouldn't play the jester, and if they did, they definitely wouldn't close with it.

Yes I know. It's a shame because I love this song "The Jester"

I'd love that they play Pull The Curtain, Confusion, Jester, Always, Some Say, Noots, Thanks For Nothing, MA POUBELLE haha

That seems like a good ideal setlist, but i doubt the sums are really for anything dramatically different from their current sets right before a new album, which will probably feature in the next setlist in its near-entirety.

Something tells me there should be more UH/Chuck-specific songs in there though... such as pieces (i know, i know... but they could jazz it up a bit if they put it in at the right part), the bitter end, count your last blessings, and ma poubelle (obv).

Pieces
Screaming Bloody Murder
Speak of the Devil
Pull The Curtain
Noots or Hell Song
Makes No Difference
In Too Deep

Cool idea for a thread!

My take:

Intro
No Reason
We're All To Blame
Skumfuk
Walking Disaster
The Hell Song
Motivation + 88
King Of Contradiction
Underclass Hero
Over My Head (Better Off Dead)
No Brains
Screaming Bloody Murder
Still Waiting
Pieces
--Encore--
Mr. Amsterdam
In Too Deep
Fat Lip
Pain For Pleasure

It was too hard to say what songs they should drop out, but I decided it's time to let HHOP songs go.
But this was only a realistic guess. I REALLY think they should bring back Count Your Last Blessings. It's dark and intense, and would fit in well with the new material.
I would also be happy if they brought back any song they haven't played for a while. And they REALLY should drop out My Direction. It's not even a single, there are a lot better ones in DTLI.

that's definitely realistic. thank you! haha. but i really want the whole of 88. they jammed the whole thing when i saw the soundcheck. but deryck didn't sing it, tom did.

totally agree about count your last blessings... but i believe the only time that song was on a set list was when they toured australia. other than that and that live session of UH, it never saw the light of day. such a pity!

love the ideas, but i don't think this is realistic. they've never played i'm not the one and slipping away. they hate playing slow songs, and since noots was a bonus track i could never see them playing it (as much as i love it). oh, and thanks for nothing is stevo's worst song on DTLI.

if it were up to me i'd also drop the HHOP songs and replace them with chuck or UH songs... but then they only play like 4 songs off UH. it's really sad. something's been up with their song choice from UH, when they are fully capable of playing the whole album.

Yeah, I was really disappointed when they started their Underclass Hero Tour in 2008.
At the London show I went to, Deryck said "Welcome to the Underclass Hero Show!"
They played 3 songs off UH that night. The rest of the tour, 4 songs at most.
Way to promote the new album, especially with a tour name like that.

EDIT: How could I forgot The Hell Song from my setlist?!?! My all-time favorite song ever! :glad:

maybe that might be a good idea... an acoustic tour, with all the slow songs, but also lighter, fast-paced ones (heard no brains in acoustic?). Would really be something, but i doubt theyd do it at all, let alone outside studios in america. Oh, and they should be naked.

(This isnt realistic but one man can dream)

It would be great to have set list that only includes songs that the sums never or rarely played live.

-Pull the curtain
-Speak of the devil
-Some say
-No reason
-Im not the one
-Open your eyes
-Full 88
(CHUCK CHUCK CHUCK)
-Mr. Amsterdam
-Thanks for nothing
-Heart attack
-Handle this
-What I belive
-Noots
-Reign In Pain
-WW7
(in no particular order)

Id be ready to drive across all Canada to attend to one show like that for die-hard fans.

yeah, its not as realistic as it could be, but in my reality it's fine..haha
I know they love to keep the tempo up but I think it would be cool to have cool down in mid set and a little chatting with the fans, then get back to it. I've always loved the idea of SA fading into Pieces. PTC would be amazing live as well, they should really play it. And when I think about it TFN might not be great live, so insert CYLB or MOTD there instead.

I left MND in because it was like the first "hit" and I just think its nostalgic and a fun upbeat song to prelude ITD before going heavy again.

Here is mine!! I would like to see 88 and Hooch (both good ending songs). I'm getting kind of tired of the Sum's setlist. Its always the same songs in the same order every tour, mix it some. And they need to stop cover other artist and play some more SUM 41.

The Hell Song
We're All to Blame
Scumfuck
-new Song-
Machine Gun
Still Waiting
No Brains
-new song-
-new song-
In too Deep
Underclass Hero
Makes No Difference
-new song (preferably a slower song/lightly mood)-
Handle This
Welcome To Hell -with "emphasis on "THE END", makes people think the show is over-
-kinda like a faux-ending, they just dim the lights and have a short break with "Intro" playing-
No Reason
-whatever they want-
88

encore
Pieces (?)
Screaming Bloody Murder
Fat Lip / P4P

i think the Hell Song is a great intro song already, it's regonizable, gets people pumped up and can easily transition to another faster song like we're all to blame, then Skumfuck and another new song thats fast aswell. Then Deryck can saw that the next song is "for old school sum 41 fans", Machine Gun is also fast but more light-hearted. Then Still Waiting and No Brains to get the head banging/ mosh pit happening again. then i think here would be a great spot for a couple new songs, possibly a fast one, then a possible 2nd single maybe? then In Too Deep, Underclass Hero, Makes no Difference. then another new song and Handle this to sort of wind people down.

then the lights dim. "what the hell?", people ask. "is the show over?" another wonders. LIGHTS. and all-of-the-sudden, over the loudspeakers, "INTRO". smoke and lights slowly illuminate/ dim the stage. then BANG! fire! and the guys come in with NO REASON! WITH A MEGAPHONE! (by this time im creaming my pants lol) Deryck says something about "did you think we were done?" or something like that. then they play another song, don't really care what it is, i just gotta pick my self off the floor and get my head thinking again after No Reason. they end with 88. or do they? the lights illuminate the crowd and stage and the guys are gone! but the arena lights aren't on, what happened? people start chanting "sum 41, sum 41, sum 41...". suddenly the lights go down and there is a spotlight shinning on a man at a piano stage-left. It's Deryck!!! and he starts playing, not Pieces, but Screaming Bloody Murder! as the drums come in, the spotlight switches to stevo and Deryck gets handed a guitar and the crows goes wild, screaming (excuse the pun) bloody murder in unison! of course after that they play Fat Lip and Pain for Pleasure, as tradition it just goes well like that.

actually now that i think about it, they should play pieces right before Screaming Bloody Murder, Deryck at piano, of course.

I figured the band would only swap one or two songs and add Screaming Bloody Murder to the setlist. Anyway, I focused on how the songs would best transition into each other so it flows nicely. For example, Skumfuk ends on a quiet note and Still Waiting begins quietly with just palm-muted guitar and softly sung lyrics.

As much as some setlists here are super cool, I doubt they're bringing back Machine Gun.. they haven't played that for a while now. It seems like they mostly dropped Makes No Difference as well. I would love them to add some unplayed dark songs from Chuck or UH (CYLB/I'm Not the One/Jester) but not sure this is happening, plus I think Mr. Amsterdam was a better opener than Hell Song. so here's some realistic setlist I guess:

Mr. Amsterdam
The Hell Song
We're All to Blame
Motivation
King of Contradiction
Screaming Bloody Murder
Over My Head (Better Off Dead)
Walking Disaster
No Brains
Underclass Hero
In Too Deep
Blood In My Eyes / some other new song / second single, whatever
There's No Solution
Still Waiting
88

Pieces
Fat Lip
P4P

Also, never saw the reason to play both Welcome to Hell and KOC. I mean.. those songs are basically in the same vein in two of their different albums.. they're both really short, fast and energetic songs and all.. in the same vein. Nothing too cool or artistic not musically nor lyrically, but they just have that energetic effect and are great for live, but no reason to play them both, especially when they extend WTH for no reason to like 6 minutes of just bass interludes.

Also, they should drop My Direction. It's just short kinda filler song. Never thought it was any good or interesting. Also, I won't really mind if they drop UH haha, it's not that good, it has too much of a Fat Lip feeling just not as good, and face is it just doesn't sound good live!
