Fans may remember a bit of tension between Simple Plan and Sum 41 over the years, for example in an older video where Sum 41 drummer Stevo Jocz said:

“At the end of the day, I would probably rather eat a goat ball than watch “I’m Just A Kid” by Simple Plan. Because, I think their album was called “No Pads, No Helmets, No Balls.”… no goat balls, no any balls. And I would rather eat a goat ball than watch that video or hear that band or hear the name, or even watch the movie, that has nothing to do with the band but they took the name. I wouldn’t watch that movie. I will not watch it. I would rather eat a goat’s ball. Just right off the goat.”

Simple Plan recently performed at Festivent in Levis, Quebec, and so did Sum 41. Sum 41 decided to cover "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. Cyberpresse.ca did an interview with the guys from Sum 41 and Deryck Whibley stated:
“Do you think Simple Plan would be able to play it?”

In an older Kerrang interview with Simple Plan, the guys gave there opinions:

"Sum 41 told us they want to give you a “fat lip”. Who would win in a fight?"

Pierre: Have you ever seen Sum 41? They are like elves! I would love for any one of them to try and give us a fat lip. It would probably be the easiest fight ever. Deryck [Whibley, frontman] would bring a security guard, and say “Beat them up for me”, because he’s not man enough. I feel bad for those guys…
Chuck: We have always been nice to them…
Pierre: …but they always talk shit on us.
David: He knows that Avril [Lavigne, Deryck's [ex-] wife] really likes me. We went on tour together, and we spent some time together…
Pierre: I feel bad for him because he had to go sloppy seconds on his [ex-] wife. We like her, she’s friends with us, but her husband is a jackass.
David: He isn’t even five-feet tall!
Pierre: Let’s just say, we don’t feel threatened.

And now SP fans have been talking about the topic on Twitter, apparently one of the members of Sum 41 Thomas Thacker ( @DUMMYADO ), tweeted:
"For the record, I never talked shit about SP."

We all hope this won't affect the upcoming festival in Bologna too much!

Simple Plan isn't that great. I only like 5 songs, but I hate the band. Sum 41 should kick their asses. Notice how you don't hear about SP anymore. I didn't even know they were still together. Fail for them, win for Sum41!

I don't know why the Sums do this. I don't like Simple Plan, but as far as I know, they did nothing that would cause a conflict between them.

Oh, and I think the Sums could beat the shit out of them. The members of Simple Plan just seem gay. I think they would star to cry if they get a little slap in the face.

I personally don't like Simple Plan but they seem like really nice dudes. So i don't get why Sum 41 doesn't like them. And you can't really blame Tom for this, Gob seems to be friends with everyone and their mothers.

u never know it could all just be a fake fight so both bands get attention. sp isn't that bad i liked a few songs, lost track of them, then my friend gave me their last album a few weeks ago. it's alright there's some songs i like in there, but sum 41 is definitely better. if stevo did say that he was prolly pretty drunk, and possibly jkin who knows?

In Bologna when Simple plan will start to play i will start to listen to my I pod preparing myself for Sum and Blink;

This is the type of post I'm talking about. Fail for who? What is such a "fail" for Simple Plan? Is it a fail that some guy in their band has had sex with Avril Lavigne? Is it a fail that they have been successful enough in the music industry to not be forced to get day jobs? I don't understand where they have failed...

You don't hear about Simple Plan anymore because they aren't currently doing much of anything. For a lot of 2009, you really didn't hear anything about Sum 41, either. Simple Plan is most likely preparing themselves another album... I mean, they are about to play shows...

I was a big fan of Simple Plan back in the day, but honestly their songs just aren't half as good as Sum 41's music.

I don't know why Sum 41 would talk shit to Simple Plan. Simple Plan even used to be big fans of them. From their song "Growing Up" one line of the song says "GC, Sum, and Blink and MxPx rocking my room." It doesn't sound like Simple Plan did anything to the Sums.
