I need recording tips. mainly for vocals. How do you record vocals? Do you put your mic' through a mixer and then into your computer or what? Explain exactly how you record vocals and what equiptment/cables you use to do so.

Well, if you want to record vocals you must keep in mind that you'll have to buy some gear. First, you should invest in a good soundcard, and and preamp, wich amplifies the mic's signal.
I bought an ESI Juli@ and an ART TUBE MP. I also bought a cheap mic, really bad for vocals (you should search things about "static" and "dynamic" mics, I can't remember which one's better for the vox.

Dymanic mics are the worst for sound quality (still good though), The best are ribbon microphones but they are very fragile. I also own a condenser microphone which it the one I was the most. It doesn't have the same awesome sound quality as a ribbon microphone but they aren't as sensitive either.

The basic principle of recording is:
sonic waves (physical source) -> weak unamplified analog signal (microphone) -> stronger amplified signal (pre-amp) -> digital audiodata stream (audio interface) -> captured audio file (recording software)

So you need a mic (I would start with a good dynamic one), a pre-amp/audio-interface (a 2in1 device should do the job) and a compatible recording software (something like logic express or cubase).

a good program is audacity, you can mix around with your voice, and i think it has a built in recording system
