Attention All PlayStation 3 Owners

There seems to be some sort of wide spread problem with the non-slim PS3 systems with the error code "8001050F". It's pissing me off, I can't play any games. People think but it's unconfirmed that some of the Sony servers have been flooded with this Tsunami but I find this hard to believe.

PlayStation Blog has already commented.
EU PlayStation Blog wrote:We are aware that some users are experiencing a network connection failure when signing on to PlayStation Network. Those of you with the newer, “slim” PS3s (120GB/250GB) seem to be unaffected.

We are currently working to restore service as a matter of priority and will update with further information as necessary. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Keep an eye on our Twitter account [http://twitter.com/PlayStationEU], where we’ll be updating you on the situation as often as possible.

Another theory
The going theory is that the PS3 is storing some form of date in GMT, then modifying that to get whatever you see in the on-screen clock. That modification process seems to be fine--the system can take 2/28/2010, 9PM GMT, add four hours, and get 3/1/2010, 1AM random time zone.

What's apparently effed, as speculation goes, is when the internal GMT-tracking rolls over to 3/1. It's either not rolling, or rolling to 2/29, at which point a system tries to add/subtract from 2/29, which it can't do because the front-end calendar doesn't have a 2/29/2010, and shit explodes. Seemed to happen around 4PM PDT, which I think is 12AM GMT, so.

And the PS3 launched in 2006; it's hit 4 2/28s so far. 2007 and 2009 were odd-numbered years; 2008 was an even, and a leap year. 2010 is the first even non-leap-year the system's been around for. If some sort of base-level math is choking on itself, it may have ruled out the odd 2007 and 2009 successfully, but is convinced the even 2010 is a leap year (this part I'm less sure of, but is why leap year could theoretically come into play at some point.)
The following is a list of errors that I have recieved.
- First off, I noticed that my time and date has been reset to 31st December 1999 and I can't change it back to what it is as it keeps resetting and when I try to set the time I get this error message: The current time and date could obtained. (8001050F).

- When I try to load up Dragon Age: Origins and Smackdown vs RAW 2010 I get this error code: "Registration o the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F).

- When I to sign into the PSN I get this message: An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network. (8001050F).

- When I try to play a downloaded game I get this error message: An error occurred during the start operation. (8001050F)

Things I Can Do

- I can access the internet through the browser and BBC iPlayer app.

- View my Trophy Collection

Please if you have the same problem then tell us your difficulties. I'm currently following the EU PlayStation twitter through Thunderbird so I'll keep you posted on updates

I've had none of those problems, but the last week I keep getting signed out of the PSN. I will be half way through a game and it just randomly signs me out. I can sign back in fine, and I can get on the internet on the playsation fine and use the iplayer. none of the computers in my house have been affected, I lose no conneciton at all when on my laptop. my brother is also having the same problem on his PS3. FUCKIN ANNOYING!

This bug just happened today though as far as I know because I was playing it late last night and had no problem until I fired it up today and was gutted that it didn't work and then I read around the internet that it's not just me and it's only affecting the "Fat" PS3s which is another reason why I think this is a hardware/software error rather than a PSN issue.

"We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system."

Sony are advising you don't attempt to play games ect... as you may lose any trophies you obtain.

Yeah, I read that too but there's a thing going round the internet that everything will sort itself out tomorrow. Dunno if it's true but it does sound logical.

well it finally happened to my PS3 yesterday =(

theres an article in todays paper (The Sun)

basicly saying it was when the clocks tried to tick over to march 1st at 00:00
a spokesman for sony said "We've identified this problem as a bug in the clock funcionality. we hope to resolve it within the next 24 hours"

it also says that it might wipe out everyones trophies and leaderboards :sosad: :suicide:

Yeah my brother's PS3 wouldn't let him sign in online. However, he didn't have any problems today.

I think it's fixed already.

I think so. My brother had no problems today after school and I checked for news about it on Google. Some sites have said it only lasted 16 hours and things should be fixed now.
