So my stock E string broke today in practice. We've got a show Tuesday so I need some new strings, but I have no idea what kind of strings I need or how Bass Strings are classified. Please help me out.

I don't know, the first time I had to buy guitar strings for myself I just asked for "whatever most people get" and the guy gave me some regular guage D'Addario's. They're awesome and they're the ones I usually get nowadays. Either those or Dean Markley Blue Steel, but they're a little too bright for my ears.

I don't know a whle lot about bass strings because I'm still trying to leanr about them myself but I kow a bit. The two main branches of strings are "roundwound" and "falt wound". If you like your strings to sound metallic and have a percussive sound then go with round wound. and i mean metal i mean you can really hear the metal of the strings. Rounndwound are usually nickel or some other kind i cant remember what they're made of. Nickel would be a good one to go with because it's sort of the middle of all bass sounds, not too this not too that. Flat wound strings are for more bassy sounds. They sound flat and not as sharp sounding. Hope this helps some. OH and don't just replace one string, replace them all. you don't want diferent types of strings on one bass.

I recommend D'addario nickel wound, but everyone has his own style, so you really have to choose yourself
