i need help figuring out how to know the "letter name" for power chords.... like instead of addressing the power chord by the root string i wanna be able to call it an A-chord or an F-chord
is there a website with a chart or something cause i cant find anything

By fret# -

On the E (top string)

1- F
2 - F# (or Gb)
3 - G
4 - G# (or Ab)
5 - A
6 - A # (or Bb)
7 - B
8 - C
9 - C# (or Db)
10 - D
11 - D# (or Eb)
12 - E

On A (second to top string)

1 - Bb (or A#)
2 - B
3 - C
4 - C# (or Db)
5 - D
6 - D# (or Eb)
7 - E
8 - F
9 - F# (or Gb)
10 - G
11 - G# (or Ab)
12 - A



I can't really give you a way of memorizing it. I just know it whenever I play.

There you go dude.

To memorize the notes start by remembering the name of each string. On the twelfth fret of each string the primary note repeats itself (For example, the top string on your guitar is the 'e' string. Hitting this string open or on the twelfth fret will produce the note of 'e')

The notes in between these work in an algorithmic pattern if you will, following on from the primary harmonic.

Just remember that notes in music go from A-G so on your E string the next note is gonna be F and so on.

Thanks guys, I play guitar but I can't read music or know the real 'name' of any chord. I always thought it was to hard for me to understand :P But it's actually kinda easy.

Also every fret is a half-step (going from Eb to E) but ther are two places where one fret is a whole step (E-F and B-C). It's basic music theory, there's a lot more to chords than what I know. I want to learn a lot moe about music and guitar.
