HELP - SG or Les Paul?
So i recently ordered a TON of expensive shit off musicians friend. I think the total of my order was like, $1132.00
When i recieved all my junk, i recieved a catolog with it, and it had some great discounts in it. I really can't spring for a such expensive guitar right now, so i need your help.
I can get this, http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... 12455#used
^With discount, real price is $294.00
Or this, http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=512585
^With discount, $250.00
I need a lap guitar, and i dunno how Sg's are on the lap. I am still gonna chnage the pickups, in either one that i choose.
HELP ME NOOWW!!!!!

Re: HELP - SG or Les Paul?
well, I couldn't really help you as I never tried epiphone guitars.
Anyway, I'd go with les paul, cause I find it more "usable" for different types of music, and I find its sound just amazing (don't know about the sound of epiphones, but I think it's close enough to the real deal).
Maybe someone that owns one of these will be able to tell you the differences.
Hope that helps a little

I believe the SG was made with higher standards.

It seems you get a better discount on the SG and imo looks better than the epiphone. However looks aren't everything.

My masters are Reem and Aaron and they are awesome. My awesome n00b is Gutter Dreams. Don't mess with them.

I'm kinda leaning toward the Les Paul, but i mean, the Sg is pretty fuckin' sexy.
BTW - Both guitars have an MSRP of $606.00

Re: HELP - SG or Les Paul?
I have a pretty similiar Les Paul and i've tried out the SG and me personally would choose the Les Paul. Not that the SG is a bad guitar but the Les Paul has a much better range if you know what i mean. You can play anything with it.

Go for the SG. It has way better features.
I know someone with that LP, it's nothing special. And the red SG looks better as well imo

Re: HELP - SG or Les Paul?
For the lap go for the Les Paul I guess. I have Epiphone Les Paul just like that (only in his standard red-orange sunburst color) and its a pretty solid and kickass guitar but annoying for live and its kinda heavy and annoying for jumping around live haha. Now I played a Gibson SG at a store and it was really really light weighted, it was so fun to jump around with it... its like really thin and stuff, but thats also kinda more annoying for the lap. Anyway, I guess for the lap the LP will be better but SG is also kickass and sounds very good! The SG is the next guitar i'm gonna buy!

Yeah, i understand. And i've heard this alot, it sounds like it'd be great for me.Emil wrote:I have a pretty similiar Les Paul and i've tried out the SG and me personally would choose the Les Paul. Yeah, but it's an awful lap guitar, the place where you plug in the amp cable is in such an awful place! It keeps stress on the chord. And, tbh - i don't really care too much about looks.Slither wrote:Go for the SG. It has way better features.

But before i continue, does someone actually know if it's awful on the lap, and if that stress being put on the chord actually matters? Cos, i gotta say, it's a beautiful guitar.

Re: HELP - SG or Les Paul?
Yeah, I Les Pauls are heavier than SG's, but I heard SG's are top-heavy. The Les Paul would probably be a better lap guitar, but you could end up getting used to the SG is you really wanted to.
If it was me, I'd probably go for the SG.

Re: HELP - SG or Les Paul?
The SG has an heavy headstock which causes neckdive. But it's not a problem at all.Gunner wrote:Yeah, I Les Pauls are heavier than SG's, but I heard SG's are top-heavy. The Les Paul would probably be a better lap guitar, but you could end up getting used to the SG is you really wanted to.

I'd go for the SG as well. The red one looks very nice.
