[Review] Gaslight Anthem in NYC 10/15/09

On my birthday, what a fun show.
The show's doors were at 7, and Broadway Calls went on first. They were really generic but showed some potential. Jesse Malin came on next, starting his set with a ballad which seemed in poor choice. He warmed up after awhile though it seemed and him and his band played a pretty good show. Murder by Death were next and by then, I was already exhausted (I didn't sleep much the night before), hot and impatient for Gaslight. By 10:45, Gaslight still hadn't gone on.
Then at around 10:50, Brian (clad in leather jacket) and the boys came out, and started their set.
The set list was as follows:
1. High Lonesome
2. Casanova Baby!
3. Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
4. The 59' Sound
5. We Came to Dance
6. Film Noir
7. Miles Davis and the Cool
8. The Patient Ferris Weel
9. Stand by Me (cover)
10. I'da Called You Woody, Joe
11. Angry Johnny and the Radio
12. Great Expectations
13. Here's Looking At You, Kid
14. The Backseat
Encore:
15. Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts
16. Drive
17. The Navesink Banks
18. We're Getting a Divorce, You Keep the Diner
From other live videos I'd have seen and compared to the last show I went to, it seems that the band has gotten a lot more confident onstage and played great. Brian looks real happy onstage, you can tell he was having a great time the entire show. I got this photo:

It felt a bit like a hometown show, as many people commuted from Jersey it seemed. Even the many annoying drunk guys in the pits seemed a die-hard fans of the group, singing all the words. It was a fun night overall, besides the previous bands. Although I got a little feverish afterwards, I'm glad I went. I would have wanted to meet them but oh well, it's NYC they'll definetly be back again.
