ok, so I was a little confused....
in song titles, why are there words in parentheses, like what purpose do they serve?
why are they needed in song titles?
example
-Over My Head (better off dead)
-I'm Not Okay (I Promise)
-Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
etc.

good question!
like.... i've never really thought about it
i guess, over my head better off dead would be a long title?

I think it's kinda like a continuation to the original title. Not sure though.

its probably just like the thing not in parenthesis is the name they came up with for it, and the one in parenthesis is what most people THINK the name is...like whatever is in the chorus. that was hella confusing, but i understand it and thats all that matters to me

It's usually just a continuation but it could also be an alternate title, in the case of good riddance.

Yeah, sometimes its a continuation of a title if like a song has a long title so sometimes like the first two words are the title and the rest of like the full title of the song, or it could be an alternate one, like Over My Head (Better Off Dead), Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Can't Catch Tomorrow (Good Shoes Won't Save You This Time), Wake Up (Make a Move), The Kill (Bury Me), Daddy Brother Lover Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song).
It could be continuations like: Another Rainy Night (Without You), Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect), It('s a Monster), Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting), Punk Guy (Cause He Does Punk Things), (We Are) The Road Crew, Whispers (I Hear You).
