im thinking about getting a laptop, you know for school and stuff. i recently video taped my cousin's wedding and i need a good computer to do the editing on. i do not want to do it on our computer because the programs suck and we don't have a good DVD burner. i would do it on one of the 15 new imacs at the school, but i really have no time at school to edit 540 minutes of footage.

my mom suggested that i just get a laptop. that way i can move all my stuff off the home PC and just have my own computer. now i need to know your guy's opinions on good laptops for me. im fairly familiar with macs already and i really love the look of everything on a mac. but if there's a better laptop/notebook out there for cheaper i don't think i'd hesitate.

Laptops are srsly ftl.

For about £500 you could get a laptop with a Core 2 Quad and 4GB RAM, still not as good as my computer [core i7 xD] but still a pretty good deal.

Thats the problem with macbooks. They're underpowered. i think, by default their CPUs are underclocked to reduce power usage.

it depends on your school status. if ur gonna go to college next year, then def yes. if not, go for the desktop and take the desktop to college

what about graphics cards and all that jargon for video editing?

If you really want to do video editing, I really would not recommend a laptop for that, you should get a personal computer with maybe at least a GeForce 8800 but if you really have the money one of the best GPUs right now is the GeForce 295 for like £400.

I could get a apple desktop but I don't really know about them as I stay away from all apple products but I don't think their very good with customization but you'd have to ask someone else as I avoid macs due to my personal opinion which I won't say.

I was for a while considering overclocking my CPU but I really don't see the point cause I have had no process lags or crashes since I got it. The only thing I can see it working for is increasing my fps when encoding videos and audio.

I don't think I'd be doing a lot of video editing, just my cousins wedding video and some school projects. And I don't want a desktop I would defintly prefer a notebook/laptop (whatever they're called these days ;)) I want to know can I get a computer that has the same capabillities as a decently priced MacBook for cheaper.

Honestly, just get whatever you want, if you want a mac then get one, in the end it will be your decision anyway

if your doing a lot of video editing go ahead and get it but make sure to order extra ram and video card, your going need any extra cpu usage you can get.

Depends what you're gonna do with it. I spent a lot on the 13" MacBook and could have had a much larger screen iMac for the same price but I take my laptop to university, my flat, back home and abroad with me so it's good to have. If you're was gonna leave it in one place then definitely get the iMac.
