Q&A with Tom

Brown Tom was nice enough to answer a Q&A for FC, enjoy!
oh and he had mentioned he was producing, so I asked him if he could give details
i"'m currently in the studio with the band floodlight, they're really good. check em out!"
http://www.myspace.com/thefloodlightband
- What led you to choose the guitar and when did you start playing?
i actually started playing drums but couldn't afford a good drum set on my paperboy wages so i got a guitar. i was into metal before i discovered punk, i learned to play by ear listening to guns n roses and metallica.
- How many guitars do you own, and which model is your favorite?
i have a bunch of guitars, not sure how many exactly. here's a list of my favorites and main guitars. with sum 41 i play 2 gibson les paul goldtops. i also have a cherry red gibson sg. a vintage cream colored les paul. a gibson es 339. a few fender stratocasters and a fender jaguar.
my favorite, i'm not sure, but i really like my sg. the headstock has broken 3 times and i keep having it repaired because i like it so much.
- Can you tell us a bit about the conversation you had with Sum41 about joining the band on tour?
deryck asked if i was interested in playing with sum41, i said yes, the rest is history.
- Did the guys play any pranks on you as your initiation?
i never really had an initiation probably since we already knew each other really well. there has been a lot of drunken mischief though, and sometimes at my expense, just watch brown tom's tour bus tirade on the sum41 myspace.
- What is your favorite Sum41 song and why?
underclass hero is my favorite sum41 record to listen to, i think the band really grew artistically and it sounds great. i think deryck did a great job producing the record. as far as playing live my favorites songs are... still waiting, mr amsterdam, no brains, 88, fatlip, generally the faster, heavier ones.
- What has been your most memorable moment with Sum41 so far?
there's been so many but headlining yoyogi arena in tokyo playing to 10,000 is definitely up there.
- What do you find most rewarding about being a professional musician?
there are a lot of perks but i appreciate the fans most.
- If you were to appear on the cover of Guitar World Magazine what would your headline read?
ok, you stumped me there.

Haha, somehow for the latter part of that answer I figured he'd say that.

My headline would be "someone please kill Pete, you all know who I am talking about"
and they answer her probably because she shows herself naked to them.

I think they're writing new material at the moment.
It's cool to hear he grew up with metal music, learning how to play by ear. That's probably why he managed to pull off that Metallica set better than The Hell Song solo.

Thats a nice Q&A, haha, though I think you should've asked him a little bit about Gob too, like what he's favorite Gob songs to play and whats up with the new Gob album.
Anyway, how you asked him these questions and all? through myspace?
And I'm with Jeremy on the songs, haha, its funny how everyone always are like "Yeah UH is the best record, its more advanced lyrically and shows the guys grew up blah blah blah... yet, all the DTLI and Chuck songs are better and more fun to play" hahaha.

Well my site is about Avril, Sum41 and Evan so for affiliate Q&As I try to relate the question to their collaboration with those artists. And yeah basically I tell them about my site, if they like the idea I add them to our affiliates program and request a Q&A. I hope to have more Q&A's with the artists and affiliates so I'll dive more into their personal projects then, but for the first one I tried to keep it about The Fansite Connection.
glad you guys like it
heres the
Q&A Cone answered for us, dunno if I posted it or not

Really? weird, considering the new stuff (Muertos Vivos) is like their heaviest stuff yet. It's for Gob what Chuck is for Sum 41. Although the older stuff are really more punk rock/hardcore punk than pop punk like The World According to Gob and Foot in Mouth Disease, although those two are awesome as well.

Actually How Far Shallow Takes You (1998) is Gob's heaviest stuff.

Yeah I figured... just the way he said he likes the heavier Sum 41 songs, I figured he would like heavier Gob songs too... like Muertos Vivos songs, like Underground and We're All Dying.

well maybe because the older ones mean more to him than the newest. not musically, but memorially... maybe that's why.
