hey thanks for tuning into the the absolutepunk chat. there were so many questions and i was trying to answer as many as i could but obviously ended up missing a bunch. sorry about that. i've since seen a lot of questions regarding the new album. so here's where we're at. i was writing a lot of songs around the new year. songs that i was really liking. and every song i would write, i was beating the songs i wrote previous. then we had to go out on tour and we've been either performing, or rehearsing all the old songs for the past few months and i haven't had as much time to get into writing for the new album. the good thing is i do have a lot of ideas for songs and although i can't sit and write them out completely, i'm really excited about them. i'm still coming up with new songs and ideas that are beating the songs i've written recently so i figure as long as i'm getting better and better i might as well keep on writing until i can't write anything else that's very good. because i'd rather put out a great record later than a crappy record sooner. thank you for everyone's patience and i promise you we're doing our best to make the greatest thing we can possibly make at this time in our lives. we'll see ya soon!

i would like to know Deryck's definition of "better". though i am confident this will be a great album, well at least better than UH, it's hard not to be skeptical.

I wonder what's going to happen with the drums Stevo did. Are those going to stay or is he going to redo those too? It seemed like they had more done than they said, but oh well...

I'm sure it will be better than Underclass Hero.

Although when Deryck was writing Underclass Hero, he said that they redid Subject to Change and now the song sounds "fucking amazing." But for me, it was a major let down.

So yeah, all of our definitions of "better" will probably be different than Deryck's.

I don't hate Underclass Hero, I though it was quite a good record and that is why it still sits and gets played on my Windows Media Player library. I will admit it is not my favourite that would be Does This Look Infected?

The reason I think most people hate has nothing to do with music itself it's just their was no Dave Brownsound. That's my opinion.

Nah that's not it. Granted everyone was bumed out because Dave left but that's not why they didn't like the music.
DTLI? was a great album and Chuck afterwards was musically pretty similar. But when UH came out everyone was expecting another similar album but instead they got something completely different. Now that they did that metallica show and some follow ups afterwards everyone kept saying "oh I'm so glad they got rid of that UH sound that really sucked"

Imo Dave leaving didn't have that much of a big impact. If their record was different similar to their previous two everyone would be happy.

Hahaha, Chuck is fuckin awesome!

The metal/rock music combined with Derycks punk voice is just an awesome combination. I miss the DTLI era. Low expectations for the next album so hopefully it will surprise me :D

Well, the reason I don't like Underclass was because of how Deryck said he "wrote all the riffs" and how it was their "best work ever". Five or so songs use the same chord progression and there's hardly any guitar in the album itself. Not saying that guitar is what makes the album, but I don't think anyone could believe Deryck's statement after he put out Underclass Hero.

And I like how just before Underclass Hero was being released Deryck said Chuck was their "worst album" and Stevo said it was a "clusterfuck". Now, Deryck's basically saying the new album a step further than Chuck slash in the vein of Chuck and Infected. So, wtf?

my friend said once... "it's better to expect a horrible album and be surprised then to expect a good album and be disappointed."

dang, now have to wait longer, but sounds like a very ambitious record
keep up good work Deryck, i like starting riff/bass on song of vid #5 sounds cool, simple to play but sometimes the simple songs sound the best, also like sound of song #2 and song in vid #1 is kinda cool too cos reminds me of chuck/dtlI,

looking forward to this new sum 41 record, seems like it's goanna be a 2010 release now, mm

Well.... It sucks to hear that... I thought they'll have more songs ready for recording and all... anyway, Deryck said nothing about the release date so I fear it might even be pushed till next summer/spring :(
