It's the best Sum 41 album. I don't see why we wouldn't enjoy it if it is the best...

+ i don't care much of UH anymore. not so great compared to the others. in UH, the guitars just seemed to "be there"; not really doing anything. while in the other albums, the guitars were doing something interesting. same with bass. UH just seemed to focus on vocals and piano.

fair point but maybe that was ment

Deryck even sed in the making when he was arguing with cone about the bass parts
the notes of bass low e ect were the meat of the song the guitar was just to fill in and add texture

i liked the wee solo in pull the curtain also walking disaster had some cool ocatave chords

It was diffent anyway i like the album alot.... depends on my mood ... if im more angry or in mood for somthing heavy Dtli or chuck .. if its summer or whateva i enjoy chilling to Aknf and Uh

There's nothing wrong with only liking Chuck.
Honestly, it's different from every album from Sum 41. It features probably the heaviest songs Sum 41 has ever made. There's a lot less of the mainstream arena rock/pop-punk riffs you saw on previous Sum 41 albums (The Hell Song, Fat Lip, Still Waiting), and it really has an overall kind of dark feel to it, that you saw glimpses of on DTLI?, but you really didn't get the entire gist of until this album. There was a lot on this album that people were introduced to, that you wouldn't expect to like until Sum 41 did it. It was just a dark album, and you could tell that the band was in a dark place... which you find out later if you read interviews from between Chuck - Underclass Hero, that the songs were written from some sort of machine. It was like, the band really mirrored this album. They really were in a dark place, and that's my favorite part of this album. It truly was written out of how the band felt. It was really inspired by the frustration that went in to being in the band, Sum 41. You can't say the same about any other Sum 41 album.

The album got a lot of new fans that wouldn't have otherwise listened to Sum 41, and that's why you see a lot of people here that probably like Chuck over other records. The same fans probably listen to artists like Bullet For My Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold, because that's the type of fans Chuck appealed to. I'm not one of those fans, and have been listening to Sum 41 since hearing "Fat Lip" on one of the Now That's What I Call Music compilations... but that is just what you have to deal with.

Chuck is what imo makes Sum 41 better than blink-182

Also, I remember reading an MTV article where Deryck blatantly states that Chuck is his least favorite of the Sums albums because of how much of a dark place he was in when he wrote it. How frustrated he was. How much he felt like a machine, and how the band was so close to breaking up or something like that. They over toured, and didn't really take much of any breaks off. They didn't really have their own lives anymore... there life was Sum 41, and that was all it was. I think that was a huge part of what went into writing Chuck.

I disagree with that statement.
Chuck is what makes Sum 41 heavier than blink-182, but not necessarily better.
It's difficult to compare the bands after Enema Of The State / All Killer No Filler... they went in two completely different directions.
Sum 41 went into a darker, angrier, heavier direction.. while blink-182 continued to make pop-punk music. I'm going to say straight up that blink-182 definitely is better lyrically, but Sum 41 always had a better musical sound. I would never say that Sum 41 is a better band, though, because the final blink-182 record is probably a genre defining record for the 2000's "emo" style, and Sum 41 can't say the same in any genre that they have been a part of.

I understand what you mean, but just because someone likes only one album doesn't mean they aren't a fan of the band. Some bands only have one good album, or one album that appeals to people. There is nothing wrong with only liking one album. Fuck, even liking one song even fills as being a fan of a band.

for the blink thing i agree

but one think i will say is with UH i think sum lost the signature sound that they were building up with Dtli and Chuck you can see the obvious development with them and UH is a left turn

but still a great album

I've voiced my UH opinion many times, so I wont voice it again. I like music with progression. That's something Sum 41 lost between Chuck & UH.

By the looks of things, they're going in another direction opposite of Underclass Hero. I guess the lack of guitar playing on the Underclass Hero was because Deryck said, "It wasn't that type of album" on the Sum 41 Message Board. In a way he's right because none of those songs would've sounded good with a solo. The next album is supposedly going to have some "crazy guitar parts/solos."

Even with those short 30 - 50 second video updates, you can tell the direction is more darker, intense, less poppy. You compare the tracks of these videos to the Underclass Hero rehearsals and you can hear the difference.
