@Lex, when you described "Epic" you said it repeated some parts near the beginning? Maybe like verses and choruses and then the rest of the song was bridge after bridge? I'm just wondering because if "Epic" is broken down to three songs, then a couple of those songs will have an odd arrangement, wouldn't they? Though if "Epic" did get broken down, it would make sense for the repeating parts in the beginning of "Epic" to not reappear at the end, otherwise you have two songs with the same parts.
THIS. BAMM! BLOWN WIDE OPEN!!!
2712, it's kind of amusing you're sort of worked up. i don't mind explaining.
jeremy - yes. when they jammed the 3 separate songs, they didn't take a break in between, so again, on first impression it seemed like one long song. but remember, my predominant impression was that "they did different things all the time", which makes perfect sense with the fact they were 3 separate songs, but took no break in between. so in terms of 'repeating stuff', what was repeated, now i realise, was really within the same song, but the end bit... it's a bit hard to explain.
i also said the song must have been really hard to memorise? because by the time they played sick of it all and happiness machines, they didn't play any more parts from crash. and also, the parts within sick of it all and happiness machines seemed much more like bridges to me because they had been playing for so long already! as a musician, i was really listening carefully, and i remember that crash was the easiest to follow, structurally/musically. chorus was in 6/8 and verse was in 4/4, like i already said. by the time they play sick of it all and happiness machines, it gets much harder to deduce what part is what. sounded more like breakdowns and solos.
it all matches up with what i said in that video for sum41france. when stevo would hit the crashes and there would be a pause... that would be to distinguish they were going to the next song. sometimes, it would also still be within the same song, which is why sometimes it would occur to me that 'parts would be repeated'. hah, obviously i know within a song parts get repeated. but again, it was more difficult to distinguish this instrumentally, without vocals. but for sure, crash parts are not played in happiness machines. they are three separate songs, but they have similar feels and moods... no question it worked, so was totally believable to be one song where they repeated stuff but mostly did different things all the time. that's my main point.
i believe due to how they were written and evolved, the sums will play all three in succession, live, if and when they choose to play it live.
thanks to the mods for deleting my multiple posts. my internet last night was a bitch and it'd never show me the page that my post had been submitted.
