Good to hear that. Chuck meets DTLI is definitely great! Too bad he didn't say anything about the b-side.

No, he said "Laying down the bass" which means he's recording the bass parts.
thx for explaining...*thumbs up*

I don't think there is current a better way to describe the best music of sum 41 other then "Chuck meets Infected!"

thats so exciting! i hope that it will sound more like chuck! chuck was awsome. and was that message a myspace message? i don't have myspace so i don't know. but i'll get a myspace if i can reach sum 41 through it. and they'll actually reply. lol.
Yeah, I hope everything balances out. I hope the guitar riffs make a comeback and the songs are darker and more mature, but no so dark that they're depressing. I hope it's upbeat enough to make you feel good and happy, but not so upbeat that it's corny. The best examples would be No Reason, Over My Head, The Hell Song and Still Waiting.
i hope the guitar riffs come back too, but i really don't think they will. cuz unfortunatly deryck isn't that great of a soloist.
this might be a stupid question, but did deryck write most of the music on chuck? or did dave help alot with it? I know dave did the solo stuff but did deryck do the rest of it or did dave? cuz if dave did write alot of chuck then it doesn't seem like there would be much hope that we would get the same type of stuff in the ep.

Well, riffs don't necessarily mean solos. Over My Head had a great riff, but the solo wasn't really a "solo" solo, just octaves. No Reason had no solo, but it still had a riff. Even though it's a simple riff, it was better to listen to than plain powerchords.
In regards to who wrote the music, Deryck claims he wrote all the riffs and Dave didn't really have any creative influence. I Facebook-messaged Dave a while ago asking if that was true and he said it sucks because he had a lot of input. There was an interview a while back about how Dave and Deryck worked on The Bitter End together and how it sounded too much like Battery so they changed up the riffs a bit and made it more of a tribute. Deryck even said once that Dave would try and teach him some shredding, but Deryck didn't care for any of that sort of stuff.
So all in all, Dave was a vital part of the band, even though Deryck says he wasn't. And to top it off, Underclass Hero isn't exactly the best proof that Deryck was the sole riff-writer for Infected and Chuck. So however this EP turns out will hopefully provide better.
Sorry for the long post, but I also want to comment on what Deryck said about it still sounding "different." I guess it means he'll throw in some pianos, acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies in those songs. Deep down, I hope he has at least one song that's just a traditional rock out song with just guitars, bass and drums.

Yeah, Deryck should realize that it's stupid to have piano in every song, even though I love piano
little offtopic, but now after listening always many many times, it sucks. The whole bridge sucks cause of piano. Guitar parts got that sum 41 attitude, but bridge is horrible. So let's hope theres one only piano song and 6 songs without it

yeah I never did care that much for always, although it is a sweet love song, I'm glad it's not on a real album. but yeah, I don't think it will be anything like chuck or DTLI. so I'm not getting my hopes up. but I liked underclass hero (not as much of course) so him saying "if you like our band you'll like this" is enough for me to be happy.

EP is an extended play... basically, a mini album of normally 3 to 6 songs, so 7 is a gift :D

I'd be stoked if it was set to be released January, but Deryck said it would be sometime around Spring that it's getting released. So probably in between March-June.

k thanks for teaching me haha
yeah the majority of EPs i've seen have been like 4 songs. some full-length cd's have barely more than 7 songs...so yeah. this is rather intensly swell news.
