Yeah, i too prefer that if people already compare Sum 41 to some band, so i prefer it'll be Metallica, which shows their unique development in the punk-pop genre, to punk rock/metal even, rather than many other ordinary punk-pop bands like green day and blink.

Don't get like that with me again. I don't need to take it easy, as I am not geared up in any way.

I was stating my opinion, which I think I did in a very diplomatic fashion, rather than being all "OMG THEY SUCKZZZCORREEEE".

So no, I won't give them respect or credit for their new music, as I don't have respect or credit for music that I don't feel is up to par with what they once could put out, and did. And I'm entitled to that opinion.

well that's okay, ashley, but still i mean, don't ignore them completely.
if you loved the band before... i mean, give credit to the guys overall, i mean, at least for their previous work, cuz it seems like you're agreeing with the opinion of "they suck without dave and can't make any normal music" like you're saying Dave was the only important member? :?

He rocks but still...

He was, to me. To what I loved about the music - he was.

I give them credit for previous music, when Dave was in the band. But now? I honestly think it's more likely that I puke out my intestines than that I give credit to any music out of them post Dave.

I hate it. Plain and simple. I hate it. If they weren't Sum 41 - I would hate it even more. I would probably consider it my least favourite album of all time. (this is all my opinion, I am not bashing, I'm stating that I dislike it, not that it's bad...even though I think it is haha).

And I am agreeing with that, to be honest. I don't think they can make good music without Dave. Good, by my definition. So I guess I am agreeing with the statment you mentioned.

I agree man, it does suck! haha

I was sad enough when he left, 'cause I figured I wouldn't like the new stuff...then when I heard the singles, I didn't like it, but I never bought the album, so there was kinda always that glimmer of hope that I wouldn't hate it as much as I thought.

And I was surviving until mid-September when I had a copy forced on me and yeah...

...This is honestly your least-favourite album of all time? With artists like Britney Spears and Hilary Duff and bands like Simple Plan out there... this is your least favourite album of all time.

haha, you must be a great musician to say that, i hope that "your music" is better than deryck's. Sum 41 with dave on it was good, but he didn't write the songs, deryck did. There's really nothing i can say to a guy (i don't give a fuck wether u r a girl or a boy) that thinks that underclass hero is bad. I think that underclass hero is awesome, maybe the guitars are easy to play but that's not the point. If you like metal go and listen to metallica cuz at the end of the day sum 41 is not metal at all (i think cone or deryck said that).

Yeah, it is true. i mean, you said you're giving credit to their earlier works, but... actually you're just giving credit to Dave, and he wasn't even the one who wrote the songs and most of the guitars, he just was awesome at playing those guitar parts that most of them were written by Deryck for him.

and Yeah, i think Steve or Cone said it, (in that interview they were without Deryck, don't remember what it was though), that if they'll go anymore metal that Chuck and they gonna be a band like Slayer, and they aren't Slayer (plus, i really hate Slayer  ).

Yes.

I don't like the other musician's styles of music...but at least it's catchy, and/or something you can tease, or dance to. I can get mild amusement out of their music...I can't out of UH.

...that's why i DO listen to other music.

Someone asked, so I was explaining how I feel.

And for someone who doesn't have anything to say to me, you ran on for a long while there...

You're allowed to think it's awesome, as I'm allowed to dislike it. Funny how that works, eh?

I liked the earlier stuff. I enjoyed the songs, as a whole.

The music isn't the same anymore, thus, I don't enjoy listening to it anymore.

But yes, I am a fan of Dave. The way things have played out in my own life, and in the way things have gone with the Sum 41 guys and the like...I guess I am a fan of Dave. However, I did love Sum 41, all of it, including Deryck, just as much as you guys do at one point.

So I will never claim that I was never a Sum 41 fan.

...that's one side of the story. There is another side, that isn't so Deryck-centred as well.

Deryck doesn't write EVERYTHING for the band. The other guys have input and do the writing for their own instrument and for the songs. I think it'd disrespectful to all of the guys (not just Dave, Stevo and Cone too) to assume that Deryck writes everything all the time.

...and I apologize for posting so many replies in this thread. I read one, and replied. Then realized there was another, and replied. Rather than reading everything and then replying in one. So sorry for the seemingly post-whoring...I just wanted to reply to what I read when I read it.

The thing is, everyone in the band, including Dave, has said that all the melodies came from Deryck. And that's what makes the song.

WEll yeah, i mean, Cone and Steve write stuff too, but as you see, especially in UH, Deryck does the most in the writing and all, and sometimes UH felt like a Deryck solo project. Plus, he took over Cone's bass but i found that rude and... not fitting as a band.

Yeah, we know that Steve writes the drum parts and Cone for the most part writes the bass parts (that was just one issue with Underclass Hero that we saw).
