People join all kinds of groups with people they don't know or have no interest in having a conversation with, just to approve of random shit and it's listed in their profile. Exactly my thoughts, couldn't have said it better. Too bad it's already got too popular, especially here in Finland. For example, only less than 10 of my real-life friends have a MySpace and/or Twitter account, so I need to have a Facebook account to be in touch with my friends without using my phone all the time.

I used to do the same, but with the German Facebook substitute/alternative called studiVZ. A few years later, I realized none of those friends were real friends, so I unregistered.
For directly contacting someone there's e-mail, phone and MSN/WL chat.
