And Billie Joe is a far better guitarist than Deryck.
Bullshit. Billie Joe and Deryck are about the same. And besides, we should really be comparing Dave to Billie Joe because he was the lead guitarist for the majority of Sum 41's career and we all know Dave could slay Billie Joe. Mike is probably better than Cone to be fair but Stevo is def. better then Tre. Compare these two drum solos and tell me which one you think is better:

Trè: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spoRxeCyCSI
Stevo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wglQkf4V-NY

At least Stevo can do double pedal. All Trè does is simple fills that even I could pull off.

In short, Sum 41 is way more musically talent then Green Day is, ever has been or ever will be.

Of those two clips, Stevo is by far the winner

I fail to see how Billie Joe and Deryck are "about the same". Deryck has never struck me as anything more than a rhythm player who can throw some simple leads in here and there, and then half-ass them live. Billie Joe on the other hand can actually play some decent solos, as well as perform almost perfectly live.

are you kidding, that was their best album (well in my opinion)

who cares if they went mainstream. Underclass Hero was a little mainstream too yet it was a great album. i will say that it sucks how Billie, Mike and Tre stopped playing hard solos, complicated bass lines, etc. but it's about making good music, isn't it
i think american idiot is a cool album, too

Deryck doesn't play anything half-assed. And show me a video of Billie Joe playing a decent solo. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just actually haven't seen Billie Joe play anything difficult.

Fair enough. Those are actually some pretty good solos. Probably better then Deryck, although Deryck is a pretty still above average. Still definately not as good as Dave but it seems over time he just gave up doing solos and putting effort into his music. Too bad.

how the fuck is this even debatable?
Sum 41 may be the forum band, but to compare them to Green Day?
That's like comparing All Time Low to Blink-182.
It's an obvious answer.
Green Day has been around since the 80s and is one of the most influencial bands of its genre.
Sum 41 has been around since the late 90s or early 00s and was pretty much forgotten between Chuck and Underclass Hero... you can bet Green Day's next album is a number 1 album and probably is one of the best selling albums of the year.

Sum 41 is good, don't get me wrong... but to compare them to a band like Green Day... you'd have to be crazy.

No, I'm not a huge Green Day fan, so this isn't a biased oppinion. This is just logic.

mainstream music, for the most part, sucks.
that's final.

More popular=/=better

Of course Green Day is one of the most influential bands out there but just because they are popular and well known. Most people who listen to real punk rock feel the complete opposite, they won't listen to anythin mainstream for the sole reason that it's mainstream (which I find retarded but w.e)
