Yeah, I heard that too. But why would Deryck be saying he's sorry to his dad and telling him that he means so much to him after writing "Dear Father".

maybe because Deryck feels that he wasnt good enough for him, thats why his dad left (though he shouldnt feel like that)?

Nah, it's clear he doesn't think that. He's clearly really angry at his dad and thinks he's a not so great person. Maybe it's what he hopes his dad is thinking or is wanting to say.

He definitely wouldn't give his real dad money. He's probably VERY pissed at his real dad.

Well yeah i guess With Me is about her too, i forgot i guess, haven't listened to the song in a while, but Best of Me is clearly about her too!

Mike, you're definitely wrong, Best of Me is not about his father, no way. Dear Father is the only song about Deryck's father.
