Wow, dude! that's exactly what i felt with Sum 41 and exactly why i got attracted to their music.Gunner wrote:For some reason a lot of the riffs Sum 41 made in those songs (Fat Lip, Still Waiting) sound like I heard them before, like I was familiar with the songs. Maybe that's what attracted me to their music partially.
The Hell Song, Still Waiting, Open Your Eyes and Mr Amsterdam especially had those riffs that i felt like i heard them before, which got me hooked on the sums cuz i kinda felt like i heard that already yet i never remember listening to those songs before, which maybe kinda gives one more points to those who say sums copy their riffs from other bands which is not true but the chord progression and the tunes in the genre are quite alike so you can't blame 'em.
Plus, Dave added cool solos to those.
Now when i think about it, Mr Amsterdam does sound Dammit I Changed Again by Offspring, which i dont care much cuz Mr Amsterdam is a better song.

lol totally! definitely!Gunner wrote:It's cool how all the Sum 41 songs that are accused of ripping off other songs actually sound better than the songs that they apparently ripped off.
My friend one gave me this one song, dont remember what it was and it sounded like Hell Song and i guess that's why i had this deja vu listening to Hell Song for the first time (it took some time till i heard it even though it was then into In Too Deep and Still Waiting especially) and then like... Sum did it much better with similar tunes!
Same with Offspring's Dammit I Changed again. Mr Amsterdam is so much better!
but yeah, first time i listened to Sum 41 songs, i always had this Deja vu.
Open Your Eyes's chorus reminds me of some song... dunno what song it is though.

I heard Fat Lip for the first time in the belgian chart. It was like a sort of top 50 and they were on position 43 or something, whatever.
The point is, the also aired the show on television, so with the video clips. That was on a Sunday, so I recorded it on video tape.
The next morning I was faking I was sick. My mom believed me, didn't let me go to schoolf and just left me at home.
Which actually gave me the opportunity to watch the Fat Lip-video all day long.
Rewind-play-playbacking-rewind-play-playbacking-.... 9 to 5
The next Saturday I bought their CD and never got rid off them actually.

Over My Head (Better Off Dead) :B.
that was like 5 years ago. I didn't realise back then that Sum 41 would be my fave band of today!
but I started listening to Sum 41 more intensely since I think 2 years.
