I know it wasn't real but would be better if Tom didn't wear the hat always, lol.

Is Tom really official? I mean, technically he isn't. He's just a touring member as he contributes nothing in the studio. I really wonder if he'll get a mention in the new album booklet..

It's all really up to Deryck in the end. He's got the final say in everything apparently.

it seems like because he has the most say, the other band members dont input enough into the album.

I bet that if it was Cone that had quit instead of Dave the new bassplayer would probably not be allowed to write things himself. The only reason Steve and Cone are allowed to do that is because they were in there from the beginning.

wtf i thought they said tom was now a studio member of the band? is he actually not in the studio with them still?
and also, their album writing seems really weird. if deryck was the singer in my bad i'd either punch him in the face or say fuck you i'll write what i want on bass you cunt

He wrote a song for the album, He's in the recent photo-shoots, he's part of the BAND interviews. I'm saying it is safe to say he is an official member of Sum 41.

That wont go on the album.. My point is, there's a difference between touring, and official members.

Hmm how can you know? I've pretty much understood that it goes on the album.

Yeah, but to be official don't you need to contribute in the studio? That's what I'm sayin'. And even though he tried to write a song for the album, Samueel, it's to my understanding it wont be on the album. Therefor, he's just a touring member.

He co-wrote song, then Deryck added some things to it and they both said it's really good song, so I'm 90% sure it'll appear on the album... It was one of the 14 songs they practiced in pre-pro so.. I don't understand where you got your information :D

Tom has been working with the guys and like in some update Deryck said to Tom something like "we could jam this song and see if you get any ideas" + Tom said that he worked a lot of song ideas with Deryck but the album was already full so they didn't record them. Tom is official and get mentioned anyway even if he didn't record any guitar parts cause he has been part of this record. And after leaving Hollywood Hills they have recorded 4-5 songs and Tom was actually recording them too.

Okay, I'll give it to ya.. He did help them a lot in pre-pro and maybe he had some really good ideas for Deryck. It sucks that he did want some of his ideas to be on the album, but Deryck didn't. So it'll be cool to see 4 names in there again, haha.

Why are you guys making such a big deal out of this? He founded this band with Steve and pretty much wrote everything they play, he deserves to be in control over the songwriting. Remember that being a control freak doesn't mean he is not allowing any input or doesn't appreciate it. He just wants to make sure he has the freedom he needs, so he doesn't have to deal with somebody elses ego while writing songs. It works.

100% agree with Simon. In most of bands there's main songwriter, and it works. Deryck has been Sums songwriter since they started, 1996. Now you start criticizing him?
And I really doubt that other guys would write better songs than him. He let's Cone and Steve work on their parts and damn, if he doesn't like parts the guys come up with, he's allowed to say it out loud 'cause he wrote those songs. But it seems like Steve has 100% freedom from what I can see from updates. Still, we don't know even half of the truth so saying that Deryck is dictator is just stupid. And like Deryck once said, being in band is much more than just songwriting. Steve comes up with videos for example.

Yeah and in one of the updates, Deryck also told Cone to stand up for his opinion, which was that he didn't like the bass in the mixes they got. He cares about them probably more than anything else in the world and stated numerous times that they are like brothers for him, probably because they are the handful of people that never let him down.
