Why?
When parents get divorced, as Deryck's did it's common for the child(ren) to feel a sense of it being their fault. This is especially true with single children.

Where is it stated (on a site that's not yours) that his father died before he was born and that his mom never married? I've never ever ever read that, but I have read they got divorced... in 2 magazines and a few websites (not just wikipedia). I could be wrong...
I mean... I just go with what
the band actually says... not implies or what 3rd parties say.
And hey...
I guess if child doesn't sound right to you, and "joke" somehow does...(and even odder...
makes sense to you)...that's wonderful.

You know what's even stranger?
Let's suppose his dad did die before he was born... damn, that's a good solid 9 month period where his parents could have gotten divorced.
I mean, it'd never happen...
But still, show me the reputable sites (not ones affiliated with you) or articles from actual magazines where he talks of his dad passing away oh Knowledgeable one.

AS for the lyrics, sorry to interrupt ladies... I definetly dont hear a 'DONT" and 'an only child to take the blame' sounds right.
Phili those are solid lyrics, but the pillow-weight thing sounds kind of off....wut about something like 'a pill away catastrophe'. is anybody else hearing pillow-weight?
