Sum 41's one and only real playback performance I know of was Still Waiting at the UK Top of the Pops. They dont allow live performances there and they probably did it only because they had to (publicity deal with the record company or something).

Their concerts are always live, sometimes they just choose to record the vocals again for the release of a live CD/DVD which can improve the experience but also destroy the live atmosphere. I personally don't like that, but I dont blame them for doing it because your voice can get pretty messed up after months of touring. You don't care when you're there rocking out in front of a pumped crowd, but I can imagine I wouldn't want the whole world to listen to my voice like that on a proper live CD.

To be honest I think there is alot of that going on. I'm pretty sure they do go in the studio and fix/re-record any mispronounciations or fuck-ups.

Lol, does anyone remember Sum 41 live on the Rove? Only vocals were live, but I think that's with every band that plays on the rove.

Haha, the first time I saw that video I was like, "Holy shit, this is the best performance of this song, ever!" Because, usually, Dave makes a few mistakes or plays an off-note during the solo but in Rove's it was perfect.

Regardless of the playback on that performance, Deryck's voice was pretty cool (the only thing not played back) and it was also cool how they kind of switched up the vocal melody of the chorus and bridge.

The basis for most live cds/dvds is the actul concert its self, but they all have stuff added to them, parts redone and normaly remixed and sometimes different parts of songs can even be cut and pasted together from different concerts (case and point, Reel Big Fish actuly show instudio footage of there live album being edited on the acompanying dvd) It dosent make it a fake profomence, its just polishing it up. At the end of the day a live album still costs the same to put out as a studio album with less of a gaurntee for people to buy it, its just artists making it sound better, I dont realy see a thing wrong with it.

A lot of live DVDs and CDs get some remixing done. But I'm 100% sure SB&HE was live.

I remember that one :devious: I was kind of hoping they would smash their instruments while the music was still playing, too bad that didn't happen.

Yeah, nobody wants to hear an official professionally shot DVD with some lame sound quality like a bootleg.

There's nothing wrong with some remixing, as long as the concert itself was live.

I remember seeing them playing Underclass Hero on playback in Japan. I could be wrong though.

Oh yeah, that was this performance in Japan, where it clearly was with a playback.

I know what you mean. I can hear the editing done in 88 on the Go Chuck Yourself/Happy Live Surprise cd. Still you can hear the fans so you know it's still live.
