Anyway, Sum 41 has this long standing malicious rivalry with Simple Plan. Sum 41 used to be friends with Reset (which is essentially Simple Plan before they started sucking), but I guess something happened there because Sum 41 has hated Simple Plan ever since. The feelings are not mutual, Simple Plan apparently thanked Sum 41 on their last album before this one, and David Desrosiers once listed Sum 41 as one of their favourite bands.

Avril used to be VERY tight with Simple Plan (especially David), but this friendship ended when she began dating Deryck.

It doesn't help that Simple Plan is really close with Perez Hilton, who on their video set had some not so nice comments about Sum 41 (he hates Sum 41 because Deryck is with Avril, he's the lamest guy around).

The center of the "beef" seems to be Deryck and Steve vs. Pierre. Cone, Dave, and all the other Simple Plan guys just seem to be back up that doesn't care.

I hate Simple Plan, argh.

I remember I was watching the Junos and Sum 41 was asked whose band's instruments they'd most like to break t the Junos and Deryck said Simple Plan's. The the interviewer asked Pierre what he thought of it and he said something nasty because it was bleeped out.

I also remember something about Chuck saying they shouldn't have had a drum solo on their first CD or something.

I'm sure all those Sum 41 references (the song, the thank-yous) were probably before the big rivalry was evident.

The thank-yous were long after the rivalry had been established. The rivalry was established in like 2003. The thank yous were said in 2005.
